The Old Folks Home

No fair! That's what I made for dinner tonight. Sausage and pepperoni. Turkey sausage actually. And enough was left over for lunch tomorrow. I love it when that happens!

So far I have sugar pumpkin seeds dried and stored, buttercup squash, butternut squash and I'll have sugar pumpkin seeds later this week when I process this single little sugar pumpkin that came from a volunteer vine that came up in my juniper bushes out front of the house.

I'm ready for spring.

Our Border Collie/Jack Russell Terrier girl is lying on the floor at my feet and she is dreaming about digging a hole probably chasing a vole in her dreams. Her front legs are making digging motions and then her hind legs kick like she is moving out dirt. Too funny.
It is a long time until Spring!

I actually use hubbard squash and pumpkin together and it's the best pie, hands down.
If I liked sqauash and pumpkin more I would experiment with them. I feel about squash like the boy in this comic feels about brussels sprouts:

It's Saturday, y'all... who is up to what?

Super windy here today as the cold front is blowing in, lots of high-powered gusts and a constant nippy breeze. SO glad I spent half a day gathering up all the leaves earlier in the week so that I can enjoy what the neighbors' trees have now blanketed our lawn with...not. Tonight is slated to be our first *real* freeze of the year, so I'll be covering some of the raised beds in an effort that we can enjoy further free fresh fiber in our diet.
DH's birthday today, so dinner out. Then more unpacking of the boxes from the remodel. Kind of onerous as we have two full walls of books that now have to be dusted before being put back into some semblance of order. Housekeeping is not my forte. :hmm

Did that last year for our T-day pumpkin pie -- I think we had an additional squash in there, too -- and DH declared it his most favorite pie ever. A definite repeat for this year.

Brussel Sprouts are THE BEST!!!! :drool If I didn't have them at Thanksgiving, my sister-in-law would start a riot *. MIL, FIL and DW's now 100 year old aunt like them. DW, DDs 1 & 2, well they are like some of you and think they are :sick. Of course they are WRONG! :D

* OK, maybe not but she would be very sad. She would happily eat a pound of them.

Almost ALL canned "pumpkin" is actually squash.

nothing so lofty here the guy I buy the chicken food from is going away for 2 months they have 10 acres but all around them is tract housing now and they were offered enormous amount of money's to move finally enough to make it worth while
:(
And he was probably being taxed as if the property were residential making it impossible to keep it no matter how much he wanted to stay.
