The Old Folks Home

scg, how much would you charge to make on just like that, for someone?

I don't know; I don't charge for my work. I made a quilt once, for trade. I made her buy the supplies and then she mailed me some cheese she made on her farm. She also mailed me a hundred bucks with the cheese, although she didn't have to.

It's hours and hours of work. This one's been 5 months in the making. I don't do it to make money, I do it to calm the daemons.

I really don't enjoy making things for people who are expecting them. It's hard to explain, but then the decisions that I make sound like this in my head: I wonder if they'd like this. Or this. Or this.

And I'd rather the decisions just be made because I like it. And then find a recipient later. who will enjoy it.

I don't know if that makes sense, but worrying if someone will like it is a lot different than enjoying the creative process.

Turn off the breaker for that circuit first, test the outlet with something that obviously does or does not turn on when you plug it in (since I'm ASSUMING you don't have an outlet tester) and you will still have thumbs. :D

Oh, and here's why I'm not allowed to work on electricity. Turns out the circuit thingie blew in the extension cord and ripping the outlet out of the house didn't break it. Once I reset the extension cord it worked!

And it is not as much fun doing the same thing twice. I once made 2 kingsized quilts for a lady. She let her dogs on the bed and they wrecked them. Then she wanted me to make 2 more! No f ing way!

I forgot that extension cords can now have a breaker/fuse... Glad it turned out to be a simple, no professional needed fix. I believe what happened to you is the reason why you don't "yank the cord" to unplug it... ;)

AMEN. Or how elaborate or lush the tree and decorations are, or how humble, as long as it is lit with the beautiful light of love.

That's actually what happened. We didn't have the cords set up properly yet, I opened the front door and the door caught on the cord and yanked it out of the side of the house, ripping most of the outlet out with it.

lessons learned. So glad it was so simple a fix and no thumbs were sacrificed.

Dh has been so sweet........Not exactly. He's looking to see if I ordered the torque wrench he wanted, as his Christmas gift. He's looked everywhere, under the guise of doing something nice for me, but he can't find his Christmas present.

:lau men will be boys.

I feel the same way about my carving.

Always look for the simplest to fix problem first, then work up the ladder.

Yep.

Illinois vehicle license plates cost $101 per year regardless of the age/mileage/value of your vehicle. You pay tax on the purchase price at the time of purchase, but no other vehicle tax on vehicles.
Wow. So that is what you pay for an entire year. Any of our newer vehicles, say 2010 up cost about $1200/year and up. I think our '02 Grand prix still costs $800/year.

I have refused to licence my bike these last few years. It costs more than our vehicles to licence, it's around $1400/year. I've been tossing around the idea of selling it. :idunno
