Yep! My mom had studded tires. The problem here is that the snow is only in the mountains. some put studded tires on for the winter and do most of their driving down here-- ripping up the roadsyeah...they are harder on the roads. But up here, even town roads often have a layer of ice and snow that protects them from the studs.
Studs are stupid to use on bare roads. .. wears the studs out too fast.
Studs are great, and the best choice for ice, and snow on ice, and all of the super nasty.

I will have to pay attention this winter to see how many pickup trucks I hear with studded tires down in the Valleyyeah...that is stupid. Studded tires are expensive and wear out so quickly on clean pavement.
