The Old Folks Home

So they do not have the same pompadour as some I have seen
Some have better crests than others. They are not as good quality as others i have had, but so far they have good temperaments.

I'm thinking about growing some beets this year. Do any of you have any easy good recipes for cooking them you would share?
We used to just do the plain ole boil on beets. They are better roasted just like you would baked potatoes, sweeter tastier and less of a mess on a plate (doesn't turn everything on the plate red)

My X wife used beets to make Borscht. She was from Russia, so did it the way they do it over there. I really liked it. Just a stray thought.
Was reading a Russian spy book recently where the old Russian general told his kids they were spoiled eating fresh prepared borscht. Said when he grew up borscht was the only thing they had to eat and was made from all the raw vegetable scraps saved in a bucket all winter from meals when they did have food.
Don't know if there is any truth in that, borscht being made from saved scraps.

Have read quite a few Russian spy books lately, seems like they eat a lot of black bread and sure do like vodka.

Kumquats!
Haven't seen them in yrs. Remember mom buying a big box of them when we were kids. We ate them skin and all, remember it being strange eating the skin and all but they were super yummy. I've been wanting to find some and remember to look sometimes. Don't ever see them even in stores that are well stocked with strange and rare fruit.
