I can't put poison under the house due to the standing water from the leak.
And we can't have a cat because the dogs will kill them.


These field mice are so brazen they will start chewing while I'm cooking or washing dishes! I bang and make all kinds of noise and they stop for a minute or move over and start again! I hate these things! But I do have bait and traps out for when they do get it. But these last two want my veggies and herbs!

Honey I'm with you on this, I've lit of cherry crackers, & to no avail they come back. Our home is clean, garbage in bin, but you mentioned water leak I think that's the link, we had a leak & pipe burst so I feel your pain. Our out door Tom cat is useless, he'll catch when he feels like it

Mice and rats are a bit different. Mice drink water daily while rats go a week without drinking water. If you have mice and not rats, a liquid poison will work wonders.

Of course it will work better when the water is gone under the house.

You can use a chick water fountain for the bait. Make sure it is in a pet safe place.

Mice are not as likely to avoid water compared to food baits. They have been genetically selected over time to be avoid-ant of food poison.

I have used the liquid bait for rats and it works ok but it works very well for mice.

Oh, Chicka, I'm so sorry. How frustrating.

I've never had the problem with mice eating my started plants but I have had problems with the cats nibbling on them. I finally just declared defeat and started covering my plants and starting trays with whatever I could find.. The bottoms cut off of milk jugs works great as do those clear plastic salad holders that a ready made salad comes in from fast food places. I've even dropped canning jars over starting containers.

Our cats are all indoors and the females do a great job keeping the mice controlled. The males are just lazy slobs. It wasn't unusual to go out to the barn and see mice running the rafters and wall joists in the barn in broad daylight. The house just reeked of mouse. It took a couple of years of diligence plus the cats to get rid of them.

Our dogs drink the water that is around the house and I don't want to kill them off.

We have them pretty bad in the shed out back. From keeping the dog food.
I told dh to go out to the feed room and get the metal barrel with the lid to put the dog food in. And he finally did. But the rats and mice are so bad out there that we have a over population of rat snakes out there as well.
I won't even go out there any more.
Dh hauls the trash out daily and we don't have food sitting out and I keep the dishes up unless I'm sick. They just want in to get out of the cold is what dh keeps telling me.
I think they are worse this year because we got rid of most of our cows and the 4 we have left can't keep all the grass down in the pasture. Dh let it grow up and he said the cows would eat it all winter and they have. But I fear it brought the mice closer to the house than normal having 3' high grass on 3 sides of the house all winter.
