A belated "Welcome, Broomie!"

SCG -- Those quilts (well, the thread as you cannot see the quilts in the dark) are the coolest things seen on the internet all week!

Daffodils coming up. Tulips trying, but rabbits are snacking.

Love to use Chobani as the starter culture to make yogurt, which then is strained to make greek-style yogurt. The flavor of the homemade is not tart or tangy and has an incredible thickest cream decadent mouthfeel to it. A spoonful of jam and it's Nirvana. (Dang... Now I need to go make yogurt.)

Stew the Roo had his roosterly way with Splash yesterday (who ran around afterwards like "WTF just happened???!!?!?"), so I guess we'll be seeing a first egg soon. It'll be interesting to see just what color a F2 Cuckoo Bluebar lays. IF incubated, it should produce a blue-feathered Olive Egger. Whether that chick would have the topknot or feathered legs is an item of speculation.

Fage is also made near me, never heard of it or greek yogurt until chobani came out. Fage ( pronounced 'fa-yeh', not by me, I'd call it fage, phage, or fagee, ... IDK?
Good stuff though. Chobani has zero fat also, some people don't like it cause it is thick, and a little sour cause no sugar, taste great to me, and tons of protien.

Funny story, of course I've mentioned I work at a dairy plant myself, 3rd shift group leader came out one day with a big enclosed coffee mug when I was working in the milk unloading bay, told him what silo the cream was in ( 40% butterfat cream, someone always comes out there with a jug for the breakroom coffee even though they ain't supposed to, not allowed Lol ) he says no I just want some milk, eeewww I say, he says (he grew up on a dairy farm) 'don't you drink it?', no, I've seen whats in it (we put a screen in where we hook up the hose, and a big sock on the strainer where the pump is, I've seen some stuff that would make you not want to drink milk, rarely but still I saw it )
After he left with his milk, I got thinking, I love the smell of milk, smells so good, open up the lids of a tractor trailer load, the door of a silo, hard to explain to someone that has never done it, smells so sweet, always wanted to try it so I did. Some of the drivers even keep jugs of raw milk for themselves, even seen one daily drink from his farm pickup hose.... I check it myself, in the lab for bacteria and antibiotics, clean milk, but boy, wow, worst experience I've ever had,
I had the worst (diarrhea, poops, unreal bad) for days, many days..., 2nd shift group leader, she said maybe you should see a doctor, I was about ready to, thought I might have Listeria.... but I couldn't say where I got it...
Told DW, "Pick up some of that Chobani greek yogurt!!!
I ate a bunch and no joke, instantly , OK! Wow! I was straightened right back out. I've been hooked on that stuff ever since, saved my life, ....Lol
Had many pickup drivers tell me my system just wasn't used to raw milk, and there was nothing wrong with it, I thought I had a Iron gut but Oboy, that was bad, maybe I'll try it again some day Lol.
Yep best a little bit a t a time... we have raw milk in sprouts. Havnet tried it. But in order to sell it in the stores California has approved only ONE dairy to sell raw milk. Those cows are kept on grass and the milking station comes to them in the form of a semi truck clean room... they are bathed before they are milked... and the milk is scruitinized... Its expensive stuff....

There are two, Claravale and Organic Pastures. I like Claravle better but do not buy it very often

With all this talk about daffodils I thought this was appropriate.

Morning everyone!

Freezing rain here. I am not looking forward to going out as everything is ice covered.

On a brighter note, I was outside last night at 10:30 with the doggo and Canadian Geese were flying high and fast straight northwest, honking their brains out. I saw huge flocks on the move yesterday 3-500 birds strong and high altitude.

Spring is on the move no matter what the weather is telling us.

We get Claravale at the co op. It comes in Wednesday morning and is gone by the afternoon. Organic Pastures is in the co op and a local store called Nugget Market. It is available more often too.

Getting raw milk here is not a problem. Grab some empty milk jugs and head to the nearest Amish farm. Goat and cow milk available. The only thing is that in Missouri, you have to be careful to say that you want it for pet consumption. They can't sell it for human consumption but if you say you want it for your dogs or bottle babies no problem. Most of them will say,
you want this for pets, right? wink wink.

Neighbors had an Amish cow grazing their pasture in exchange for her milk. She was giving 3 gallons a day, more than enough for a family of 14. They were passing the extra on to us.

I love home churned butter.:drool

Chobani greek yogurt has three types of probiotic cultures, and is all natural.
Do they have it way over there?
Seems like it is getting hard to find yogurt that ISN'T Greek anymore. Not a big fave at this house, too solid.

I let my Speckled Sussex girls out to free range in the chicken yard today. They had a blast turning over leaves, looking for bugs.
Mine have done that yesterday and today. Very happy chickens.

I'm used to dealing with my sisters family, if you leave your seat for even a second, its gone.
Unless you say "Save seat!", right?

Hey Broom, going shopping tomorrow. Need to get some sleep.
They sell that at the store now? I wonder if Amazon has it for those that don't want to drive to the store.

Pictures or it didn't happen
SCG, do not torture yourself!!
Unless you are a masochist I guess. If she posts pictures *I'm* not going to look.

Much better indicator than the overdressed woodchuck!

I heard a red-winged blackbird yesterday. They usually show up in early spring after the robins but I haven't seen one of those. Yesterday, I told my neighbor/chicken buddy/Audubon member about the the RWBB and she said she hadn't heard one. This morning she called to tell me she has robins in her yard! :woot We have a bit of snow left where it was piled-up from plowing or drifted deep in ditches but bare ground every where else. Spring can't be too far away...doesn't mean we won't be getting our usual freeze or snow or ice here and there but we are headed in the right direction! :wee
