The Old Folks Home

This year we have rain! We may have green on the foothills for another week....And the brown and dead....
And, sadly, the start of the fuel for the next set of wildfires.

Here the grass starts turning brown about the end of July.
My Dad visited once in August, he'd lived only in So. Cal and Oregon generally SW of Portland. He was surprised the grass was green since I don't water it. Most years we get enough rain to keep it green and in "drought" years, often there is enough morning dew to keep it alive if not growing much.

Thanks for those links @getaclue. I can really see that happening with the immunity in 4-6 years. What I find very interesting in my flock is how the deaths slowly built until I was loosing 1-2 birds a week this time last year. I kinda figured that IF the die off stopped, it would stop the same way but it didn't. I lost my last bird to the initial die off May of last year. Then it stopped like somebody threw a switch. I have yet to figure out what triggered the end of the initial die off. Not that I'm complaining. I know I have birds that will in time die, the ones with Ocular Marek's being high on that list but for the time being they are all in good condition and not showing any signs of active disease.

@Beercan Your Wellys were/are beautiful. My girls have those same rich penciled gold hackle feathers that really stand out when they regrow after a molt.

Actually woke up to sunshine this morning, such a relief after almost 3 weeks if not more of 95% cloud cover.

No way I'm going to be able to plant taters before the end of the day, tho. I'll probably be out working on the rooster tractor coop for the first time in over a week.

Y'all have a great Good Friday!

Have a blessed day :hugs

Vet came out to see the goats today - Pip's been having vaginal discharge for weeks.

Apparently her uterus is sad and she wants to have babies. She got 2 shots in the last month, 2 more today to try and keep it dry (plus a third, her regular CDT).

I told BF, seems like he's going to come home with a buck one of these days.

I do not need baby goats.
