Whine. As a nurse I really get sad when I read about people who live with chronic pain. Being one of the club, I can understand the adversity of taking pain meds but as a nurse, I remember being a student and being taught that the body heals better when it is not stressed by pain and with that thought in mind to take pain medications before pain takes hold as it is easier to control when it is mild than when it is an 8 on the pain scale.
I am a no pill taker..... but if you saw my daily pill container you wouldnt belive it.

Three Hi blood pressure pills morning and evening
Two Diebetis pills morning and evneing
Two depression pills morning one evening
one diabetic nerve pain morning Two evening
one Colesteral in the eveining
one Vitimind Dand calcium morning and evening
one Vitimine for eyes morning.

If I am in dibilitating pain I will take Ibuprophin and tylenol dosages equal... Nsaids for inflamation Acetaminophen for pain.

I refused to take Alieve some time ago because of the water weight it put on me. Meaning My kidneys werent handling it well. But a couple of times now I have resorted To Alieve. I wont take it more than two days in a row... I wont take any of it more than two days in a row.l

I told this to the nurse at the Oncologist office... I said Pain is a good thing.... It reminds you to not over due.... But her response is... "All good and everything but there is no need to suffer."

Gave me perspective and why I am back doing Alieve occasionally.

Thanks, @chickadoodles. I just went out and the new baby was peeping out from under mom's breast feathers. No more have hatched. Candled two earlier and there were no internal pips on them. The one that had pipped earlier looked as though the pip was a bit larger. It's a wonder any of these eggs hatched the number of times the hens have rolled them back and forth between them.

Chicka I once told the doctor that getting older wasn't so bad except I never expected to have to live with so much pain. Mainly my lower back and hand and feet joints. I was stubborn at the beginning about taking the RX pain medicines. But I can't take the INSAIDS that could benefit me due to them bothering my stomach so I have little choice left. Usually by this time of the day my pain level is such that I no longer hestitate to take my Ultram. I told the doctor once tht he didn't have to worry about me misusing my prescription pain meds. I respected and feaared them too much. He just laughed and said that wasn't his worry. His worry was that I wouldn't take them when I really needed them.

Picked my first Zucchini today. Tomorrow if I get another one I'll be having breaded zucchini sticks for dinner.:drool

This isn't the first time I've had one of these hens do that with a chick. They have some glitch in their instincts about babies and what they are. I'm just glad I was there paying attention so I could save the baby because I have no doubt that the hen would have either injured or killed it.

I had a hen that was great at sitting on eggs... but when the chicks hatched she would toss them out of the nest and let them freeze to death .

I am happy you were there to rescue the chick. Hope at least 1 more hatches.

This is very common. Broodiness has been very messed up by selective breeding

My first broody who just weaned her chicks was a little jewel. Did everything right. So I now have three broodies. One adopted the new chick and the rest of her nestmate's eggs. One is on three eggs with one pipped and the other is sitting on 3 eggs. I've been making regular trips out to check just in case I have to intervene. Hoping I won't have to but you never know.

Congratulations on the new chicks, @penny1960. Glad your baby isn't alone and sad any longer.

I made the painful decision today to send the remaining Buff O and Welly chickens to freezer camp while they are still healthy enough that their lives will stand for something other than being a victim of Marek's disease. They are over 3 years now and their egg production is down. They would rather be in the coop then out scratching around. I have reached the point where I suspect having them around is just exposing the other birds to high concentrate of the disease when they start to decline. This decision wasn't easy for me to make and I think loosing 4 birds in a 10 day period of time pushed me over the line. Having to put them down due to illness or them outright dying is a waste IMHO. If I concede defeat with that flock and have them butchered at least their lives will stand for something other than being a victim of Marek's disease.

A family friend told me about a local Amish meat processor where he takes his birds. I think he said they charge a dollar a bird. 2 dollars if they provide the freezer bags. If I don't eat them the dogs will.

High today was 47, pouring rain most of the day.

Miserable.

I didn't take many photos on account of the crappy weather and being covered in mud and wet.

My quick dry pants weren't that successful as it's hard to get dry when it's pouring. My waterproof shoes gave up around 11.

Thankfully I was smart and put wool socks on this morning, so they were cold, but tolerable.

We pulled an invasive tree and bush out of a Civil War Veteran's plot. We knew there was a broken stone in the plot next to it, obscured by bush and tree.

You can see the tree in the below picture, pretty far back, center left.

We are missing the bottom of her stone. I did locate:
lovinaclay.png

So I know her death date and age. I also located in the archives:
Clay, Jonathan, d. 25 Jan 1847 aged 83 yrs. Sally, his wife, d. 30 Aug 1865 aged 90 yrs. Ella, their dau., d. 11 Oct 1849 aged 55 yrs. John, their son, d. 25 Feb 1865 aged 75 yrs. Lovina, their dau., d. 12 April 1865 aged 69 yrs. [stone embedding in 1994].

So while we're likely missing about 8 to 10 inches of stone, it likely doesn't contain an epitaph as the archives (which were done 3 times since 1940) don't have one.
