The Old Folks Home

THE STAR-SPANLGED BANNER

During the war of 1812, the ship Francis Scott Key was on, was detained from leaving the waters near Baltimore.. Looking across the bay in the Baltimore harbor, he could see Fort McHenry in the distance.. It was September 13, 1814.. As the night fell and light waned, suddenly the smoke of cannons and the burst of bombs lit the sky..

The screams of the war's dying filled the night.. Francis Scott Key could hear the shouts of the victims and the howl of missiles piercing the air, but no sound gave a clue as to who was winning and who was losing.. Only the morning light would reveal the battle's outcome..

As darkness gave way to light, Francis Scott Key wrote on the back of an envelope..

"Oh say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight, o'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming!
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?"

For the Free, by the Brave..

God Bless You All, God Bless America..

I think that is one of the big nasties about getting older for us women anyways is that post menopausal metabolism switch. I can remember hearing two aids complaining about their cramps, their water bloat, their hormones this and that. I told them to be careful what they wish for because they will miss all those hormones once the change rolls over them. No more thick glossy hair, no more being able to eat what you want, no more perky boobs and remember gravity? Well, it hasn't forgotten you and everything starts to shift to the south. Energy.....gone. Fitting into the same clothing size you've enjoyed for years? Gone. Wearing high heels when you get dressed up? Nope. Feet won't let you. Embrace your hormones, I told them. They are what make you young.

I weighed something like 98 pounds when I was a freshman in high school. Always a skinny, sorta sickly kid. Didn't like to eat. SO now where is the fairness of liking to eat but not being able to because everything you eat you may as well just smear on your butt and thighs cause that is where it's going to wind up anyway!

I think I'm in food withdrawal after enjoying myself today. Back to cottage cheese and fruit lunches and baked chicken dinners....for like forever...

Hope y'all had fun today in spite of the horrid heat. DH and I shot off a few fire works for fun. Sweat streaming down our faces, mosquitos buzzing our heads....I think I 'm ready for fall.

I guess the problem with over heating will resolve later as you have trouble keeping warm. Getting old seems to go from one extreme to the other
