Just found a newly hatched chick running around the lawn.

No moms in sight.... no broody hens near... I think it hatched from underneath one of my broody ducks and the mama duck said hey! You are a chick, not a duck!

Kids went to see if one of the mama ducks would take it.... looks like they might have... but the CHICK didn't want them!

Probably for the best and the chick is smarter than you think. Mamma duck would have been in for a rude awakening the first time she lead those babies into the water.
