The Old Folks Home

Keeping you all in my prayers.

@ronott1 and @perchie.girl, you two definitely need to rethink this California thing and move somewhere where there is a lot of water around you....like an island. All kidding aside. You guys are to be commended for not bolting for the border after facing 1 wildfire. You must be made of some pretty tough stuff! Personally, I want nothing to do with fire other than the one that is in the fireplace keeping us warm in the winter.

Yeah, I tried a worming method I read about here on BYC where you smear the paste on bread, cut it in bite size pieces and then feed each bird a piece of bread. Oh yeah? Really? With Bantams? I was chasing down 7 week olds because the roosters were calling them and giving them their 'bites' and I didn't want to worm any birds under 3 months. Then they started to play keep away with it. I finally caught them before they could swallow too much and tossed them the untreated bread. While the hens were scrambling for it I was grabbing the roosters and forcing the glob into their mouths. I got the hens to eat the treated bread and the roosters force fed their dose. Think when I do the repeat, it's Ivermectin injectable in the water time.

To make matters worse somebody pooped on me from an overhead roost.:sick Little ingrates.
Yup, i got the poop on my back while feeding the young turkeys! The adults were up on the roost, let er rip!

Two more years and I might not be in California anymore!

But Idaho would not be any safer....It would be less expensive to live there though
Yep, cheaper.. :) we are right next door to Idaho. Beautiful .. We do get our fair share of fires though, especially here in Utah this year. :(

Sorry for those of you having to deal with the fires, or that have family/friends dealing with them. Scary indeed.

scg, glad your dad is better. May I make a suggestion? Pass out a couple copies of your will, etc., to at least 2 family members, and one of those should be someone you expect to survive you. The reason I say this is due to what my dad did. My mother had everything organized, and in place. When she died, it was easy to take care of all the details, and paperwork. My dad, on the other hand, was not good with paperwork, and due to my brother, hid a lot of things. I went through heck trying to get things settled, and done after he died, because the paperwork was not readily available.

Another thing I ran into, his will was over 30 years old. While it was legal, and binding, back then the witnesses just signed, without producing any ID. Many states now require that it's confirmed on the will that the witnesses showed ID. I had to get 2 people, not family, to go into the lawyer's office, and sign a document confirming that it was his signature on the will. It's not so easy when a person gets older, and peers that know them, and their signature have passed away too, or are disabled so they can't get to the lawyer's office. Fortunately, he was a charter member of his church, so the pastor, and his wife had copies of things he had signed, and they went in for me, as witnesses to verify his signature.

My Mom and nephews evacuated to Shingletown today. My Sister is headed up there soon. My Sister said that half of her staff were evacuated last night.

My Brother has a Son working in Klamath Falls Oregon on a fire line. The fire almost went over him today!

I pray everyone stays safe. I pray your nephew and all the fire crews stay safe!
