The Old Folks Home

I do have a family line on my dads side from Spain.
My youngest son was born with multiple disabilities.
And it seemed every time I took him to the Dr. They found another one. I asked the Dr. If they could do a DNA test and find a related disease that would link them all. They did but the doc asked me why didn't I tell them we had Caribbean blood. I was stunned. At that point I did not know where my
Pinson line came from. But she never told me the results of the test.
The only thing I knew about them was they were nearly all blind.
And I have 2 kids that are blind in one eye and my father and his mother were blind.

I read this morning that Windows is going to start charging a monthly fee for using Windows on their next version of Windows I guess like they charge now for using office.
I had already decided to try out Mac products and I told dh that I am going to get a new Ipad next year. I hate the control that googles has over all the things we do on the internet.

Not sure what the thrill about ghee is all about... I'm not a huge fan of clarified butter, and like salted butter... I like all that stuff that settles out. In fact, when dipping seafood like lobster and clams, I get depressed when all that stuff settles out. Takes away all that delish butter flavor. :idunno
ah but its not for dipping sauce... the reason for clarifying it is to preserve it for keeping for frying and sauteing... Thats why its best to not use salted butter. so you can control the salt taste in the food.

By clarifying it you change the smoke level and you can actually deep fry in it if you want. I do have to say Mine came out nutty flavored because I got the milk solids tooo brown almost black.

You could go to Linux as an operating system. True that you will still have google but with Linux you have safety from viruses.

I'm running Linux on my computer which is a little Gateway that we bought to use on the farm when we were commuting. No Microsoft at all. DH uninstalled it when he installed the Linux. It works great.

I hate Google with a purple passion, also. Was doing Pinterest for awhile but quit as I didn't like the 'spying' that was going on. The least I can tell Google the better, but unfortunately, they are everywhere, monitoring and watching every keystroke I make.

Beautiful morning here. Temp in the 60s when I got up. Plan to do some deck work today. Anything to be outside. Only thing missing is rain, which we badly need. There are some cracks in the ground that are almost an inch wide and very deep. Garden is a wasteland and the underbrush is dying off. Went down to the pond the other evening and it's down a good 2+ feet. Hoping that fall brings rain along with it.

All you folks keeping an eye on the wildfires around you stay safe.

I don't want the head ache of hunting down drivers for everything with Linux.
I thought a bought it last year but read how you have to hunt the drivers is to much for me.
I'm just going to get an iPad. I don't do as much on a computer these days.
I might get in over my head trying to back up pics unless I email them to myself. Lol

I understand Deb... I do cook with butter and like the flavor that real butter gives in cooking. When I fry with butter, I don't cook at temps high enough to "burn" the butter (or at least try not to - smoke). And deep frying with ghee would be a pretty expensive proposition at the prices they charge for butter nowadays.

Once you remove the milk solids and salt, IMHO it's no longer butter, clarified or not... you're left with basically pure 100% animal fat/oil... I can't even detect a "butter" taste to it. I don't think it will solidify without refrigeration anymore either. And it's much more costly than a bottle of vegetable oil, or even lard if it's animal fat/oil you're wanting... Neither of which require refrigeration and keep for many, many moons just sitting on a shelf.

Am I out to lunch on this? I mean, my tastes are what they are, but the proposition? Wouldn't lard or veg oil be as good/better/cheaper/easier?

Nor sure who Orr is, but glad to hear she was spared fire damage/loss. Many haven't been so lucky.

Hey JD... sorry about the missing glasses. I need readers and have pairs all over the house... lose one pair, go grab another. :hmm How you doing?

Ghee is good for frying at a high temperature and getting butter flavor. It is good on popcorn because it does not much up the popcorn.

Butter is good for lots of things too! Brown butter for gnochi, baking, pancakes and etc. I use both a lot in baking and cooking
