That sounds terrible!

Can you come up with a different system for feeding them?
Not really, if I use gallon feeders or larger, the feed just sours. Besides gives me a chance to really check things out in their pens or check the birds for any problems up close. I feed anywhere from 1/2lbs to a 1lbs/pen. The coffee cans hold 2 lbs. so depending on how many birds I'm running in a particular pen, one can will feed either 4 pens or 2 pens. All of my pens are designed the same way, which is 8 pens in a 30' x 40' total enclosure. So for some of the enclosures it takes 3 cans. Some only 2 cans.
I've thought about a kids pull wagon but some of the ground I have to go over to get to the pens is rough and rocky. I have 147 individual pens in all the combined enclosures.

I remember that you have quite a pace and a lot of pens! Amazing!

@Cynthia12, I had neuropathy when I was going through Lyme treatment. No fun, no sir ree. I have plantar fasciitis plus I'm pigeon toed, medical term metatarsus adductus so I'm supposed to wear shoes with arch supports. Not easy to do arch supports when you are barefooted and being barefooted feels sooooooo good.

@007Sean, slipped on ice once while holding a round food cooler. Fell on the cooler. Invented new curse words.

You know how you go through a really rough spell with your birds and see more rough road ahead and then something happens that just totally brightens up your day and makes you feel like you can safely say that the little man who turns on the light at the end of the tunnel has woken up for just an instant and turned on a flashlight for you? I'm having one of those moments! A good friend of ours in our local HAM club just emailed us and offered me a Fayoumi rooster!:wee:wee He got a freebee with his chicks he ordered and he is pretty sure it's a Fayoumi and he doesn't want it. If I want it I can have it. :celebrate:celebrate:celebrate My husband just asked me what I was going to do with my 20 other bantam roosters to which I replied.....what roosters? ;):lol: Working out the details about pick up now.

Sean I'm so sorry you fell and got hurt.

I had a lot of trouble trying to carry 5 gallon buckets to feed my birds. I got a heavy duty cart from tractor supply to put my feed on. The cart helped so much. Before that I fell regularly trying to carry the buckets. The heavy tires on my cart go all over this farm. And I can stack 8- 50 lb. bags of feed or mulch on it.
Just a suggestion.

Yep, that's what I use to put parts in, bolts/screws, etc...and for feeding my pheasants. The bad side of that was I had both my hands full of the cans, (I carry 3 in each hand from the main feed 60 gal can) when I fell and had no way to brace my fall with my hands. :barnie
Use buckets, much better.
