The Old Folks Home

Morning all.

Sitting here sipping coffee and debating whether or not to order a few yards more of fabric from Joann. Man this is like a candy store. Already am up to 50 dollars which is about my limit so guess I'd better quit before it edges up further.

Also saw this thread on an email this morning and read about these birds. Never heard of this breed before but they remind me a bit of Fayoumis'. I keep wondering how these hens can live to be 10+ years old, lay an egg daily and not succumb to reproductive cancers like a lot of production hens.

Interesting about the Deathlayer chickens. What size egg do they lay?

I need unflighty birds as we have predators and free-ranging is out of the question. Also need eggs that are Large or bigger as my clients like a big egg.

I hatched out some 55 Flowery Hens, but found them unappealing visually (heads shaped like turkeys) and they were just too frenetic. Sold them to a fellow who is gifting his father with something new and exciting for (early) Christmas. So nice to have the grow-out pen gone and my garage bay back!

So just finished morning chores, have my big ol' mug of tea, and visiting my online family before I have to head out for the 45 mile drive to the feed store for goat pellets and chicken feed. The debate raging in my brain now is...

Do I drive the additional 80 miles to get a decent Philly cheese steak sub w/xtra cheese, mushrooms and onions :drool  The only time I would get out that way is if I'm headed over to the airport, and that "might" happen once or twice a year and not anytime soon. This is the closest I'll get about once a month when I make my feed run. Is it worth the extra 2.5 hours of driving , the cost of gas (which has dropped below 2 bucks a gallon here! :yesss:), dealing with the traffic going through Dallas :barnie, etc...

I'll let y'all know the outcome ;)

I have heard of them. Sometimes I cruise the Greenfire farms website and dream....

I dunno @Peep_Show. I don't think it mentioned that in the description of the birds. They did say they were very rare with only something like 1500 birds registered. Greenfire is breeding them and it did say that if you have a breeding pair you are set.

Sounds like these birds are well suited for a predator rich environment although if I was going to invest big bucks for a breeding pair I'd want to keep them safe. Maybe like Fayoumis' if you give them a big enough run and net it over they may be happy.
