BB2K and I got the cookie gun out a few days ago, and made a batch of cookies. We got all fancy - dipped them in dark and/or white chocolate, put on some sprinkles . . . . The results weren't professional grade, but they looked festive and tasted good, and most important of all, we had fun!

As usual, we went to my parents' house on Christmas day. My brothers were there too, and we had a nice time catching up. We were all studiously trying to avoid focusing on the elephant in the room, which is the return of my mother's cancer. She had a PET scan last week, and is still waiting on the results . . . not fun. Prayers would be appreciated.

Glad you had fun with the cookies! Sorry to hear about yoru mom's cancer. Will pray.

Made it back home did get grower and more dog food at the feed store sold my incubators to fellow who I got all the marans eggs from so going to a good home

Got 6 cockerels moved. Then I had to chase them down and toss them in the coop with them protesting all the way and me wheezing and coughing. I do feel better. I just don't sound like I'm feeling better. So I have a steroid inhaler in one hand, an albuterol inhaler in the other and a bottle of cough syrup nearby. Think I'll drag out an old cough RX that I save for emergencies.

I did get to really give the young roosters a once over though and discovered that the flock master, a really nice cochin OEGB cross sired most of the male chicks this year. He has a distinctive rose comb that he passes on to all his sons. Two of the youngsters were fathered by the flock master's lieutenant and the little idiot named Timmy who works with Twonky. So Pepper who is over two years old now, and Twonky who will be two this coming March and Timmy who will be two next June were very busy boys this past summer.

Due to their size and general gorgeous appearance I held two of the cockerels who's mothers were my two little OEGB BBR hens and who's sire was Timmy. Hopefully they will carry on with the smaller hens this spring.....which should make life interesting with the three SWD roosters.

I did finally get my Fayoumi hen to venture outside. I actually had to pick her up and carry her out and put her in the run. She loved it. I left her with a row of potential suitors constantly circling her like small moons and dancing till they were tripping over their own wings. Such silly little birds.

I went and got my truck "safety inspected" today ($7.00) so I could pay my registration tax (~$55.00) and get my sticker for the coming year. Since the inspection place also does routine maintenance I had them do an oil change as well. It's been "due" for a couple thousand miles.

I've had a check engine light for a while and I know it's the O2 sensor or something to do with it. Don't want to spend the money to mess with it at the moment so I asked the inspection place was that going to effect the inspection. Happily, no... the inspection is purely a safety inspection. I thought last year there was a vote to eliminate the testing... It's really a joke

While at the county clerks office I also paid 1 of my 2 part property tax bills. ~$775 to the city side which is due by the end of December or it starts going up in price. The 2nd part is ~$1,000 and is due by the end of January, payable to the county appraisal district, so I'll pay that next month.

Last month it was the property insurance at 2 grand. Next month it will be vehicle insurance... I'm bleeding out here financially... Pilgrim's pride chicken processing down the road a spell is hiring and advertising starting pay @ $11.83/hour. They have a few other jobs that I'd probably be OK at paying a bit more. Might be headed back into the working world next year at least until my social security kicks in next fall winter. So NOT thrilled with the prospect But I kinda like to eat

Sounds like us before we ran to the border in IL, @Latestarter. Taxes about the same there. Insurance here is through the Farm Bureau. It's a bite that would be a lot less if we didn't heat with wood but we aren't complaining.

often the check engine light just comes on at an interval and can be turned off. If it comes on and you cannot turn it off, they it might be a sensor.

My honda, you turn on the ignition to on and push the mileage button in until the check engine light blinks. Different vehicles have different ways to turn it off

I had my son do them early. I'd write a brief thank you and he would add his name. He was lucky only 3 letters to his name and easy to print. I also taught him to send birthday cards, valentine cards, mothers day cards, et al. I impressed upon him that women even dates, appreciated that. Cards can be light, funny but not insulting etc.
