The Old Folks Home

Oh my goodness scg.. glad nothing happened...and, I had a scary thing happen about 5 nights ago. I go to bed late. I've been doing better..but this night was a few minutes before 1 a.m. I heard a car out there, didn't think much of it because there are 2 different homes that have vehicles come home late at times. I had Cooper walking beside me, he sleeps right beside me, I still hear this car. I decided to look out our big front window. There is a car stopped right in the middle of the road, not pulled over a bit, right in the middle. Right away I think, oh, they must have to adjust something.......then..I see a big person, I'm assuming a man, walk up my front steps. I thought ..is he going to Ring the door bell at 1 in the morning? Then I knew, no..there was nothing..no ratting of my door knobs..nothing. I had my phone in my hand. I hurry back to the hall, turn on my flashlight and point it to the door...and to the window..back and forth. A few seconds go by, and off goes the car. I go to wake my husband. All he says when I tell him what just happened, and a man walked up to our door was... I wonder why. It takes him a while to really get with it when he wakes up. So, I called my son that is living down stairs. No answer. I finally decide that the car has been gone long enough for me to check the front porch. Nothing. Huh, like I was expecting some cute note from a church member. Not at 1 a.m. I left the porch light on, and the kitchen light on. Son in the morning..mom..you called at 1 in the morning? He was worried it was something to do with dad. Yes he says when I mentioned the thought I had...you should have called the police. He thought I still should. No..lights on, plus I put a real noisy chime on the glass front door. Instead of screen, it's glass. Boy, it's a nice loud one. Like your dog, mine was useless . If that door had been touched, he would have gone balistic..but he didn't. Crazy stuff. My son says, because we're old folks, we could have been watched. It's true, I know they look for certain things in old folks homes. Money and meds. No money here, and, no ..fun..drugs here! Still keeping the porch light on...from now on. It's supposed to be sensored but it hasn't been working. Just turn it on now, for the full night.

Cyn and Perchie, nice to see you both but bummer on the health news.

I just went outside to do morning chores. I did the ducks first, and then when I came out of the goat haus (right next door) I heard, clear as day, a man off in the woods behind the duck house say "hello."
Now, mind you, it's 4 am, cold and dark, and I live in the middle of nowhere.
The ducks all freaked out too, and looked back behind their house, off into the woods.
There should not be a man in my woods. I cannot see him and I hear nothing else.
I realize my "guard dog" is still snoring away on the couch, so I hightail it back to the kitchen door (as much as I can on thick ice) and wake her butt up and make her go outside. She doesn't notice anything abnormal, goes about her business. I hear or see nothing else and finish the chores up.
Still mildly panicking I realize I'm wearing a pair of stretchy pants with sewing machines, buttons and pincushions on them as well as a shirt with a very, very inappropriate design on it.

This is not the outfit that I want to go missing in. I mean I don't want to go missing, ever, but this is definitely not the outfit I want splashed on the news.

I basically penguin run back to the garage, lock the door, then come upstairs and get the dog, who still hasn't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

Now she's on the couch (because she is lazy) and very lowly growling while looking out towards the front of the house. But, she does that a lot (and if the snowplow goes by it's all out panic).

I'm really not even sure there was someone/something out there, but I'm wide awake, now.
Scary!

You need a German Shepherd. Mine is a sweetheart, but strangers are scared of her because she puts on a good show. Barking, hackles raised.

Cynthia -- So sorry about the kidney numbers. Dang!
Our dogs both had kidney failure numbers and we switched them to plant-based/vegan as protein is hard on the kidneys. One is now back in the normal range and we prolonged the life of the other at least a year beyond what was expected. Vets were amazed. Just food for thought... The switch is hard -- I've tried, but dairy is my Achille's heel.

@Cynthia12 and @superchemicalgirl, you are being cased out for future break in potential. The odds of them coming back, especially for cynthia are very high. SGC are you sure you didn't have a neighbor back there? I have a hard time picturing somebody saying 'hello' to you at 4 am unless 1) they knew you or 2) which is the scary one, they were trying to draw you into the woods. Even where we live, which is mainly out in the middle of nowhere, if we go out after dark we carry some sort of protection just in case we encounter a raccoon, yote or even a two legged threat.

Both of you please be safe and careful.

Yes, I would be very concerned and very worried if I were both of you and yes, I would contact the authorities and have them both check the areas and step up patrols around the neighborhood. They will do that if you ask it of them.

As for guard dogs, definitely something with BIG teeth and a bad attitude. Even a little ankle biter that will barks it's lungs out will deter somebody from breaking in as a barking dog draws attention.

Sounds like it's time to put up security cameras or get ADT on the job.

Cynthia I'm so sorry to hear about your husband dealing with kidney failure. Sounds as though he is taking the problem seriously tho, which is good. Definitely adding him and your other loved one to the prayer list.

Well, hubby is doing well in one area, not so well in another. Went for his physical today. Had had lab work done, found out that he is in stage 3 kidney failure. What? Dr. said it had been going down for a while. Just had my husband start seeing this guy. My Dr. His retired. Never a word about his kidneys.
Can't like anything about that Cynthia :(

I bet! I hope it turns out to be nothing, or an owl.

We thought of that! We even thought that the guy in the car was just waiting to see if he got in ok. Then the guy is standing there thinking, this doesn't look right. You never know.
