The Old Folks Home

I love crows. What does "garbage bird" mean? They eat garbage or they are garbage?

They eat garbage.

And bald eagles greatly prefer easy pickings. So carcasses, the dump, those are first choice.

Only if they find nothing to scavenge do they decide to hunt. And bald eagles are highly opportunistic. So what they hunt is just what is easiest. So yeah... they love chickens.

You really are taking on a lot with those rescues!

We have crows and hawks fly over the house here. Buzzards are more out in the country though
Yeah, but the laughter and joy has out balanced the aggravation and house being torn up. There isn't a day that goes by when then don't make us laugh and when they come into the house and crawl in our laps wanting to be cuddled and their bellies scratched, all is forgiven as far as bad habits are concerned.

So far our 5 dogs for 25$ will have somewhere like 2000$ invested in them by the time all are spayed, neutered and have all of their shots done. Shots alone have been close to 750$. But when we let them loose and see them tearing around the trails in the pasture and diving into the tall grass like porpoises, it's worth the cost at any price. They are just such amazing little animals.

Sidney has discovered the chickens. She has also discovered the hot wire. She fell over her own feet in her rush to get back to mamma for sympathy when that happened. She is now torn between cautiously approaching the fence and remembering that those chickens are armed and dangerous.

Yes, sure is. We are in the early stages of getting the front fenceline on our property hot wired again. It's been 5 years since it was operational so it means clearing the fenceline of ground cover and volunteer trees. DH watched them the other day and remarked "better put up two hot wires across the front". I suggested putting in welded fencing along with a mote. About 30 minutes later the pups discovered the lagoon behind the barn which has about a foot of water in it right now. Bentley was running through it back and forth as fast as he could, water spraying everywhere and a big smile on his snout.

Ahh to be young again!

How ya feelin, @perchie.girl?

plotting sourdough again it is rising as it failed yesterday
That is a bummer. I've not made much bread and have never tried sourdough.

Forget the welded stuff, they will break through it. Get knotted 2x4 fence. And apparently you'll need some alligators in the moat to keep the dogs from swimming across. Hopefully they will fear the gators without needing to feel their teeth.

Take things slow, Deb. Your body is still getting use to the new you.

Bruce, our first cattle dog chewed through woven field fence. Cut through the wire like a pair of bolt cutters. No matter what fence we have up, it's going to have to be backed up with electricity.

Our spotted black and white dog, Buck, backed his fat butt into the charger wire hooked up fence charger in the entrance to my chicken coop. He jumped straight in the air, yelped and headed for the house at warp 9. I told him I sympathized. I hit the silly thing a couple of weeks ago. Found out how good my reflexes still are.Made me yelp, too!:gigBut I couldn't hit warp 9 if my life depended on it.

I got the animals left over from the swap put away, did some feeding and watering. Sold a Turkey, 2 roosters, and 5 pullets. No quail or rabbits. Not terribly well attended. I think next month I will go to the one in Martinsville instead of Brookneal.
Five and a half hours is not enough sleep. Really tired, but the nicest part of the day is right after supper. Lots to be done. Tomorrow is supposed to be back up in the 90s!
