The Old Folks Home

Luckily we're on the other end of the solstice now and things will be reasonable soon.

Sunrise tomorrow is at 0454... it is light by 0400 here for me to do chores/let everyone out without a flashlight.

Sunset is at 2027 tonight, full darkness by about 2100.

Makes for a really long day.

Here's what I did today:
This is what we started with. A limb fell last fall and damaged 4 stones in the back of this small cemetery. Someone put the back left on backwards, so we flipped that around. The front left and front right we fixed - just have to infill the front right break tomorrow (without me). We didn't get to the back right with the bent pins.

The front left got dug out, the base of course had concrete in it (that's my lot in life) so I got to chisel that out and then we replanted the base and mortared the stone back in. It has to have plastic bags over it for about a week to increase the cure time, making the mortar stronger.

Surprise: he wasn't. He was broke off, and the bottom missing. I found it about a foot back. Someone had previously glued it so I got the pleasure of removing that, as well. Then we epoxied it back together. It has to cure 24 hours then it can get put into the ground. Since the base is below grade it doesn't need infill.

Then I came home, walked Ripley (only a mile) and we installed the air conditioner since it got to an inhumane 86F today. Now I'm waiting for the biddies to go to bed (probably another half hour) then I'm going to soak my sore body in the tub and then go to bed.
Very nice and productive day at the cemetery!

We are down in the middle of the Country. The sun is out so much more up north!

I have not heard if the advisory we passed ending day lights savings time is being worked on here. I doubt it is though

80% of Americans retire at age 65. If he is over that age, It is normal to retire then.

It sounds like you had an amazing career!

Thanks, @ronott1 !

Poor guy is only 58! I’m older. I think his work in summer is so physically exhausting, watching me prepare to retire makes him feel even more tired. Plus,he spent the last 3 weekends building the coop!

I’ve done my time, though, often working evenings or an extra p/t job. I’m very excited. I think I’m ready. If anxiety gets the better of me, the local prison is advertising for mental health professionals “full-time, part-time, and per diem” with a sign-on bonus for full time. Desperate, like so many employers in Vermont.

Mom Grew tomatoes in vegas along the fence no stakes no support... But the shade from the fence gave relief to the heat.... We had beef steaks the size of a sandwich... ALL YEAR LONG.... no die back.... They just kept growing.

And our growing season is short! Supposed to wait till Memorial Day to plant (everyone cheats. It’s a gamble)
And better get that harvest in early September!

My Wife has retired from teaching but She is younger than me. I am 59 and could retire at 60 and a half but will likely work on getting closer to SSI age. I also need to keep the health insurance up for all of those older age Medical issues

I would like to end it too, and also join the Atlantic Time Zone.

I really hope they end daylight saving time soon here! Then maybe more States will get on the ball and end it too

That’s not nearly enough snow!

Of course, we are skiers!
LOL up in the mountains we do get snow but its only good for cross country... not the true alpine experience.

Annual precipitation here is about ten to twelve inches. Rain and snow combined.
We are in the rain shadow of the mountains.... they get about five to ten more inches than that.
