The Old Folks Home

Sure ya can, Bruce! DH used to say the same thing. He can do it! He hates doing it but he can do it. What he really hates to deal with are dead trees standing and I agree. I've seen them do all sorts of strange and dangerous things while being notched. Ones on the ground are easily dealt with but we try to make it a policy to let ma nature bring down the dead ones. We'll deal with them afterwards. The big tree that he and a neighbor dropped last fall was newly dead which isn't as dangerous and it was bigger than the one we are dealing with now.

It's just safety, safety, safety and a lot of prayers and fingers being crossed...oh and a clear path to make a quick get away if you have to!
True, a clear path to safety is key. I am not as fast as I used to be. Once upon a time I was on the track team. Wish I could have that body again!

Early GOOD MORNING to all! I was up before 7 today. Only a high of 83 expected so time to get out and work on the tree harvesting, then the run and get things ready for the new chicks that are due today. I candled all the eggs under broodies last night. My fatal gene egg showed up again. I made sure to stuff an extra egg under one hen just in case and I'm glad I did. Looks like it gave up the ghost at about 3 days, which is par for the course. I wish I knew which bantam hen is doing the deed but frankly I'm not much into dying hens butts to find out. Much easier to just toss an extra egg under a broodie.

@superchemicalgirl, you have been a busy girl on your day off to boot. Good job! I'm finishing up the last embroidered square for my "Life on the Farm" quilt top. Then only one last row and a section to piece together, make adjustments then on to making the basting permanent. I've really enjoyed this project. I've been working on the embroidery and planning for about a year now. Will probably take me another year to put together and quilt out but that is the part that I love the best.

Y'all have a great Wednesday!

Good to know, I wasn't aware of that. I guess one wants to choose a recently dead tree "on the hoof".
