But those leaves look so different.

Pomegranate in Maine?
Seriously doubtful.

Do you have a photo where we could see the shape of the tree?
It seems that some can grow into zone 5 but the fruit suffers is there is any at all.

If there is one by the duck house, It likely came up from a seed. Of course the ducks would have been fed some pomegranates at some point

It looks like some sort of apple to me also. Not sure what. I'll get out tomorrow and take a look at our apple trees. I'm almost positive that we have fruit growing two together on a branch. I know our Asian pears do for sure but that looks like some sort of apple to me.

@CapricornFarm, prayers sent that it isn't Lyme Disease. Did your doc do an Elisa and Western Blot?

Thanks guys. Yes, Lots of love and stitches so far with much more to look forward to. I don't have a clothes line tall enough to use but I'm thinking maybe I can rig something up on our back porch once I get the top done so I can get a decent pic of it.

Big disappointment for my broody. Looks like she has two dead chicks in the shell. I had miscounted the due date for her eggs to hatch. Should be today but nada. When I didn't see any pips, I decided to do a quick candling. Lots of fluid sloshing around and no movement. Also huge air sac. Looks like embryos died recently. Thought they looked okay the last time I candled them . . Now I have to do some fast egg swapping. One broody has 4 eggs under her that started on July 4 and another has 3 under her started on the same date. A little bantam hen has eggs under her started on the 29th. I think my plan will be to give her eggs to the hen with the dead chicks, then take an egg from each of the July 4th hens and give them to the bantam. That way Sweetie won't have to start over from scratch. Poor little girl has been a good broody and I'm so disappointed for her. I just want to get a couple of live chicks for her at this point without her having to spend another 19 days on the nest.

I have no idea what happened unless it was the hot spell we had last week.

You’ve done research in this! I’ve just never heard of anyone growing pomegranates, here or in Massachusetts or Connecticut, where I’ve also lived. Seems it would take some special handling. Like maybe a greenhouse! Could happen, I suppose. I don’t know where she is in Maine.
