The Old Folks Home

I hope so when she arrived they were just finishing the Accordion sing along and beginning the Karioki.... They have already planned Grandmas birthday which is on the 16th.

What kicked me over for this place is that you can bring your pet with you... The latest fellow that passed away was 101.... His little dog can stay there till he passes... they have a huge doggie backyard. :love

My Mom still has my Yorkie with her at the place she lives. She is crazy about that dog.

She’s right; change and transitions are especially difficult for the elderly. They rely heavily on routine to make it through the day, and so this is a massive change. It’s very disruptive. The loss of familiar surroundings, autonomy, routine, and change in caregivers can be bewildering.

So adjustment takes time, sometimes a lot of time. Try to rest easy.

@CapricornFarm, the quilt turned out beautiful. I was wondering if you got it finished up. Handmade 'art' is never perfect, that is what makes each piece unique and valuable. I love the colors and pattern. Good job. They will cherish it.

Hang in there, @perchie.girl. I had the same thing happen to me the day my dad was set to return to the nursing home. I had talked to him and told him that things had progressed with him to the point where he wasn't safe to be left at home alone again. He understood what I was talking about. Day came to leave and he refused to go.I finally had to get my brother on the phone to talk him into going. He had no memory of our conversation. I was so stressed out it's a wonder I didn't stroke.

I know you are going through conflicting emotions right now but keep telling yourself that you and your mom did what only was right for your grammy, but what was right for the two of you.

We used to tell families of newly admitted elderly residents not to visit for a few days in order to give their loved one a chance to settle in to their new surroundings. She may 'lash out' and be tearful for a while but she will settle in and learn to love her new residence.

The place really sounds great! They used to have a facility cat where I used to work. Had to re-home it as some of the old women would lock the poor thing in their night stands.

Eggs in the Brinsea are perking along. I candled last night and things look good. I need to recheck a couple of eggs that should hatch hopefully on Thursday or Friday. I hope.....:fl

Thank you! I would have worked more on it, but I guess 6 months is enough already!
Had bad luck with some California Quail babies, they all piled up on top of the waterer base, got soaked. I put them in the incubator to dry them out. Anyway, I ended up losing all but one. I think the heating pad was not hot enough for them.

I am hoping better routine will help her.... we are woefully lacking.... Their specialty is Dimentia care... Kind of like rehab but care to help keep what facilities they have....

Both my son and I are looking at how much our lives changed as she became more needy. I can stop hiding in my bedroom with naps.... I can start cooking now that she doesnt think we are trying to poison her... KFC, In and OUt, Arbys.... were her favorites. Not necessarily good food but she ate it with relish.

Yesterday Dean and I went for a drive and realized there was no rush to get back... And that we could do just about anything we wanted to... Instead we grabbed dinner ate in a parking lot and went back home... we were only gone about 45 minutes.

Our adjustment and Grandmas Adjustment is going to take time.
