The Old Folks Home

Cheese makers @ronott1 or any of you old timers . Father-in-law stopped by the other day to have me change a tire... He's 82 and sitting down watching me work, says where did you get the cheese weights? Huh?
Pointed out a couple heavy weights I have used them to keep swinging garage doors shut. I figured they were some sort of small tractor weights, but they are pretty small so probably not, maybe really old garden tractor weights? He said his mom had weights sort of like them, had the slot in them to slide on the board to weigh down the cheese she made.
IDK? Can't find anything googling it, just find cheese presses nothing using weights...

It is possible. It might have been a version of this with square weights across the board pressing down on the cheese wheel:

I am another one that has paints sitting around waiting to be used! We need a class to make us go.
For those of you who have paints when you have some time ( maybe when you are stuck in the house during the winter) there are a ton of free tutorials on YouTube. Just search water color tutorial. I'm doing a lot of them until I feel ready to do one of my own pictures. Would love to see others paintings :love:love:love

I will try to remember to post some of mine that are framed.

Dutch cheese presses had/have an arm. The cheese weights would slide on the arm. Now, they don't make the arm as sturdy as the older ones, which was a length of 2 x 4, but this gives you an idea on how they were used. Different types of cheeses require different weight. With most, you started with 1 weight, and after most of the moisture was pressed out, you would add more weight. Now, instead of using weights, most suggest using gallon jugs filled with water as weights, then attaching them with a loop of rope, or cord, thus the notches.

@dsqard, I didn't know there was a mini Aussie. My Lucy who died last January at almost 15 had Aussie blood. I think she was a border collie with some aussie thrown in as she had that distinctive mottling on her legs along with a shorter muzzle. Her tail was border collie though but the rest of her coloring was like your baby's. Lucy was so funny. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her and Dingo.

Finally stopped raining about 8pm last night when a brief downpour happened. This morning it was down to almost 50 so DH lit a fire for the first time this season to take the chill off of the house.

Pups have a new trick. Checked on them last night to find Diesel curled up asleep, ON the washing machine. Seems as though he can jump up there from the floor now. I went out and moved everything off the dish washer, which sits next to the washing machine and serves as a 'cabinet top' for my detergent, fabric softener etc. Guess I'll have to put a rug up there so he doesn't slip and fall. Amazing is I watched him jump up there and he lands on all 4's like a cat, so he doesn't slip off.
