Oh... I have about a 1/2 mile of driveway to plow, and several parking areas as well. Up and down a hill with switchbacks.

Yep.

I need deep ditches all along the driveway so it drains well and fast and doesn't get soupy and start to swallow cars. Soupy roads happen in the spring.

Yes. Mud season. @getaclue , it’s far worse than winter. The unpaved roads start to thaw, but are still frozen beneath. So the water can’t drain from the mud. The mud grows deeper and more treacherous than a foot of snow. Sometimes there are ruts in the mud 18” - 2 feet deep. Ever get your foot stuck in the mud? Yep. Sucks your tires right down. And you slide around.

Nightmare.

But now we are getting ready for winter! Hurrah! Skiing, sitting by the fire, soups and stews and homemade bread. Sure, it’s a pain. But I love it. And it’s so beautiful!

These are the woodstove on a snowy evening, hanging with family by the fire, and family in the backyard.

DH, who is younger and has been skiing for 55 years, is sometimes impatient with my cautious speed and cautious choice of trails. Of course, I’ve now skied a total of three seasons. So I’m cautious!

There are many older, accomplished skiers around here. They ski early on weekdays, avoiding the younger, crazier set. The ones drinking beer and smoking pot on the chairlift, for example.

Al, if I could figure out how to do it I'd ship you a couple of cords of good Missouri oak and hickory to burn.

Thankfully my chicken bud is our post mistress her husband has a contract with the state for wood at all the camp grounds but is doing ours first we have almost 3 cords that is 2 more than we had before and he help us stack it the wood splitter we got BF is a god send he has his fill of splitting wood

I know a tractor worth grew up with 2 Dad let me drive after I was 10 he put blocks on the peddles and built me a b0x to sit on drive had to be done for Ma to go to work and him when we went to school he was a post man in downtown Seattle cared very much for the people on his route he walked it for many years
