The Old Folks Home

My weight loss seems to have ramped up again.. I feel my bones every where except my lower legs
:yesss:

I am not only feeling better my balance is better and I am not freezing all the time.
That is terrific!!!!! You are becoming a new person.

I bought some kombucha to give it a try... Had to do a 50/50 mix with plain water to be able to drink it. I enjoyed the taste even if it wasn't sweetened. I cant read the bottle but I think it was lemon/ginger... I can put in some sweetener next time...
I've tried it a few times. It isn't the lack of sweet that makes it hard to drink, it is that it tastes a lot like vinegar. Some are really strong, others (by comparison) not so vinegary.

@perchie.girl, he shouldn't have to drive that far for care. DH had to drive 85 miles to get specialized care at the Truman VA center in Columbia. He gets his general care from the local clinic but with me taking pain meds and unable to drive long distances it was getting to be a hardship for us to drive to Columbia. He found out that if specialized care is more than 40 miles away he can get care locally for things like his skin cancers and any other specialized care that he needs.

Your cousin needs to check into that. Please pass it on to him and tell him if he has to, contact his local advocate and if that doesn't get the job done contact his local VA surgeon general which is what DH did. Trust me, that man was injured in the defense of his country. The country owes him now. Tell him thank you and prayers sent!

I don't know if I could deal with kombucha. I love sour kraut. Growing up in a household with a German/Pennsylvania Dutch dad, it was practically a food staple but something tells me kombucha is an acquired taste.

PS Perchie. Remember, you can do this! Just remember everything you have learned the past year concerning what you can eat and how much you can eat and what proper serving sizes are and you will do fine. Remember we love you, girl!:hugs

he has an advocate ... but the real stickler is the controlled substances he has to take in order to function. I wish we were more in contact... But when Grandma passed he stopped calling here.

I was finally able to get my ducks in a row so I could post some pics of my folk art chicken Christmas ornaments. A friend of my husband's has a shop near him that sells a lot of country related items. He has sent me chicken salt and pepper shakers, wall plaques, etc and last year he sent me these darling blank chicken ornaments for me to finish. I worked on them off and on and finally got them finished back in October. Here are my favorites:

The little Christmas village sitting under the tree was fabricated for me by my sweet husband who made it using his 3D printer. It lights up using those little LED votive candles.

Happy Tuesday everyone! We have a heavy frost this morning here as it got down to 11 degrees last night. Everything is frosted in white and the world is beautiful here in our little piece of Missouri!

I love the chickens!
I was shopping all day yesterday, so the truck will need unloading. But I can do that any time. I finished the two wall hangings and mailed them off to Canada. Almost $50 in postage for one small, light box. It's crazy!

@perchie.girl, glad to hear that you are feeling better.
We always used cheese sandwiches or peanut butter sandwiches for low blood sugars. You are right on with the protein as it stabilizes low blood sugars. In extreme cases we would use orange juice laced with sugar followed by the sandwich.

Between Christmas cooking, making out a few cards (do you still send out cards?) working with the 5 heathens and doing everyday stuff, I've been studying for my last HAM upgrade. It's hard. Lots of math. Not just adding and subtracting, but Trig.....ummmmm just can't wrap my old brain around that so DH is coaching me through the tough parts.

We got almost 5 inches of snow yesterday. Very pretty and it finally makes it look like Christmas. It won't last long as temps are expected in the low 40s later this week but I'm going to enjoy it while it's here.

@drumstick diva Your honorary 'nephew' Varn is back to his 'onery self. This morning he tried to drag two heating pads and 3 magazines under the futon which we have christened the "brat cave" I had a rousing tug of war with him over a heating pad which can now no longer be used with any wet pack.....

He's such a good boy......not.
