The Old Folks Home

I have property taxes but they only cover bare land. They took a permit to drill the well and establish electricity. but from then on they just built. The utilities run underground to the house and you cannot see the house from the road or the Well house.

Lots of buildings in the desert started out this way. But only ones that actually look like a mobile home with a stick built add on get nailed by the code inforcer. Also people in dispute over something get a bit nasty and turn the other in to the code inforcer.

The house is built to code in all appearances.

18.5 acres of land with only a well and electrical drop runs me 1500 dollars a year +-

Any improvements I do will be to code just not done with permits. Even long established companies like San Diego Electric will do work this way. After the emergency measures the first on my list is To have the electric run through on the house and brought up to code.

wow! I know lots of people Sorry this got cut off. I live in the mtns in a doublewide and lots of people near me also have built on and around theirs. we all do the best we can and keeping warm and safe is very important. You be safe.
Good luck.
I have not heard from the Dr. yet. I called and they only said it was pending. I will call again Mon.

I am sad and angry but not down. I am turning all the negatives into positives.
You are a strong person Deb! I can only imagine how depressed I would be with that situation happening just as I was planning to move back.

my mum used to say exactly the same thing
Aging is universal!

@perchie.girl you can only have a composted toilet IF you have a regular toilet all ready hooked up? Man what will they think of next?

Here, we have what they call 'over the hill'. No septic system. Waste water and ummmm other stuff exit the house via a single buried pipe. The pipe exits the earth over a ravine some distance away from the house. Quite simple. No zoning laws out here. Some people go with septic systems, Amish don't. We have a tank on our want list but this works. Also no inspections. I remember when we put in electricity we asked them if we had to call to set up an inspection for zoning and they said. Nope, don't need one. We wanted to do a happy dance.

DH knows how to wire. When the co-op came to put in the power pole and meter, they threw the switch and said that their job was done, the rest in our hands. DH threw the switch on the main circuit breaker and turned on the AC. We gave them the thumbs up, the house didn't burn down, so they left.

God I love Missouri! Illinois would rob a person blind on inspections and fees. Here we do pay personal property taxes on vehicles, farm implements, livestock and the like (yes, Chickens too! I think I pay 4 dollars or so for my 50 chickens.) But if you don't buy new cars every year and drive used vehicles, tractors, etc, you don't pay much.

One interesting thing happened today. We were out working on one of our radio antennas. When we have it done it will be 1/2 mile wire loop antenna that is being hung from our trees. We were down by our pond and here comes Buck, our hound mix, dragging what looked like what was left of a deer carcass. he was happy as only a dog can be when it's found something gross to chew on.

Sure enough, it was a fawn's remains. The little hooves were about an inch long so it didn't survive long after birth. Probably from last year as all that was left was the little things legs and spine. So sad. Does don't start dropping fawns until next month into June so we don't have any idea what happened or when.

Lots of freedom of that sort in TN too!

On my android phone, upper left three lines/dashes brings down a menu with watched threads.
On computer, horizontal menu bar with " watched "
Finally figured it out, have to be ON a thread for it to work. When first logging on I just get this;
