The Old Folks Home

Two nights of unusual deep freeze weather here which did in what was to be a banner apricot crop. My little green marbles have shriveled and are leaving the tree in rapid numbers. I covered the tender lettuce beds but left the beets, radishes, kohlrabi, bok choi and kale beds naked. All appear to be thriving. Phew! Today I may get a late crop of peas in. In two weeks I'll plant the corn. Kind of a tossed calendar of veggies this year.

The cold fronts have moved through and we now return to our regularly scheduled temperatures. Low 70's climbing to the high 70's by the end of the week.

We're suppose to get a few more days of rain. I sure hope we do. We NEED it.

Dh, and I have had this ongoing minor dispute about my electric fence charger. He kept wanting to order a new one. I told him it was not needed, there is nothing wrong with this fence charger. No, it's not putting out what it should, even when tested with the meter. I'm aware of that, but the problem is not the fencer, it's the grounding. Nope, we need one with more power. Hmmm, the one he ordered, does have the capability of producing a bit more bite. BUT, it's still not going to work at optimum, if there is a problem with the grounding, I argued. I maintained it was a matter of the ground being too dry, and he should put in the ground rods the way I wanted, and it would fix the problem.

To prove me wrong, he got another ground rod, and put everything the way I wanted. When everything was done, he grabbed the fence tester. That baby's got some seriously good kick now. He was very surprised.

His past attempts at planting a garden here, haven't produced much. It's a fairly new garden. The first time a new garden is planted, I don't expect much, for obvious reasons. This is not a new garden now, but he's still not getting much of anything to produce. I've complained about 2 things. 1. He doesn't plant enough at a time. 2. He over waters. He complained it was the soil. I argued that the soil was optimum. Well, he had the soil tested. It's fantastic. Couldn't ask for better. When asked to describe what was going on, he told them. Hmmmm, it would seem he's not planting enough, and he's watering too much.

The drip irrigation supplies he ordered have arrived, so he's been out there, in between the rains, getting it set up. It has been decided that I will have half of the garden to do with as I please, and he will have the other half. We did this before, at the other place we lived, so it's not a big deal. When my half of the garden grew, he began paying attention, and copying what I was doing. It was a success, and we had plenty of food. He's forgotten how we did it at the other place. That's ok. I'll get my half started, and when it gets to growing good, he'll take it over.

This seems to be a never ending situation with your DH! Glad you didn't have to waste money on a new charger when it was only a grounding issue. My research says frozen or very dry "earth" will not ground well. I went with the option of carrying a ground wire along with the hot on top of my fence. If a predator hits both of those trying to climb over they'll know it.

Dh, and I were talking about a rebuild for my computer. I have no problem with picking every single component, EXCEPT the mobo (motherboard). Checking user reviews on the X570's, and not one of them stands out as being consistently good. I even enlisted Dh's help, which is something I rarely do, and he came to the same conclusion as well.
Maybe go for an AMD Ryzen?

I will get an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X, but that's the processor, not the motherboard. Like I said, I know every other component I want to put into the build, except the motherboard. I've read tech reviews, then when I go to newegg, amazon, best buy etc., they get low ratings, OR fairly poor user reviews. Yes, I am aware that a few of the negative reviews are either insignificant, or user error, so I discredit those. Still, none of them are really showing as living up to their hype close enough to make them a good choice, and the bigger factor is quality control. It seems that it's about a 60/40 shot as to whether it will be faulty straight out of the box.

Very true about ground rods. DH used to have me go out and dump a bucket of water around mine during dry spells.

So we didn't get the snow they were calling for. As you can tell, I'm really broke up about that... :wee
:celebrate I have been outside working on enlarging the brooder. 70s and hot in the sun. Leaves are not full out yet, so not optimal shade.
