The Old Folks Home

For the past 3 days, I've declared war on the rats that thought they were going to take over my coop. I've now got the upper hand. I had tried rat traps, baits, etc. Nothing was working, and they were worse than they've ever been. I turned dirt, and flooded everything. The first day, about 12 rats came out. I was able to kill a few, but really could have used an extra hand. It's not easy to dig, flood, and whack rats, all at the same time with only two hands. They're FAST too.

Later on, Dh went out there, and I had him cut all the tree limbs that were overhanging onto the coop roof, and inside the electric fence. Dd #1 helped guide him, and they dragged the limbs to the burn pit. While they were working, a couple of the rats were trying to get back to the coop area. Dh killed them.

Yesterday, I dug, and flooded again. Nothing. No tunnels, no rats. I know cutting all those branches has had a great impact.

Today, no droppings in the feeders, no tunnels, no signs of rats anywhere. The chickens seem happier too.

Success! :clap :celebrate :wee

Having just been through that I sympathize MIGHTILY!!! Ramik down the holes didn't work? That is what got my rats gone.

Please don't read all the posts... I've said some dumb stuff here.
yeah, just read the smart or witty posts, not the dumb ones.

Ramik is good so is Tom Cat, although while I've seen rodents around they aren't hitting the Tom Cat as fast as they usually do..I'm thinking of smearing a little peanut butter on it to ummmm sweeten the deal so to speak.

Our Jack Russell Border Collie cross dug herself up a huge field vole that had pups hanging on her. That female was at least 5" long without her short tail. Spot was merrily pulling the pups off her and crunching them down before I stepped in and tossed the remainder to the chickens....well, you can imagine the rest.

Howdy old folks. It hasn't been able to decide to rain or be sunny today. Same with warm or chilly. So I decided to do absolutely nothing more strenuous than through the ingredients for bread in the bread machine and let IT do the work.

Ramik was working at first, but they got to where they wouldn't touch it. Normally when I get one, or two, the Ramik clears them out fast. Dh bought some rat traps, and put peanut butter on them. They didn't touch them either. Digging, and flooding has done the job, along with getting the tree branches trimmed up.

Try raw bacon in the trap, just a small piece.
