The Old Folks Home

@getaclue. Sorry about the unneeded worry with the baby duck and the baby with the nerf gun. Little one didn't know what she was doing and ducks are about as dumb as chickens when it comes to eating things they shouldn't.

Hopefully like the doctor told the little boy who swallowed a nickel, 'this too shall pass'.
mirco, It was my own fault. When the duckling first found one of the nerf bullets, I took it away. The next day, when it found one, I went to take it away, and it ran away, like playing keep away. Later that day, I tossed one, and it ran like the dickens to get it. Like fetch. It was like a game, and cute to watch. Due to the size, I never dreamed the duckling could actually swallow it whole. In addition, I usually stayed right behind the duckling, to get the bullet back. Had I known, I would never have done anything like that. I would never purposely put an animal at risk. I feel so stupid, ashamed of myself, and I'm still beating myself up about it. We are all still saying prayers for Quacker Sparkles.

Stuff like that happens!

How is the Duckling doning?

:frow everyone!

Still busy busier busiest here. I am scheduled to get my next Prolia shot on the 7th of next month. I know from the past two shots (this is my 4th) that it will likely knock me on my butt. Not sick but exhaustion, joint pain, no appetite, the works. Last shot was bad as far as side effects were concerned and I tried to talk the doctor out of me getting another one. He wouldn't back down and asked me to tough out one more shot which would put me up to the time for my next Dexa Scan. He said it was really important for them to see if I was rebuilding bone with this drug. I told him okay, I'd tough it out. Not happy but feel pretty much cornered. It's like take the shot or risk a severe bone break? I have the feeling that a broken hip would put a kink in my life style so I take the shot.

In the mean time we are trying to get the wood collecting done and at least in the barn ready to be split so we are done with the heavier harvesting work by the first of July. That means going out every day that weather permits, dropping dead trees or harvesting overgrowth and getting it up to the house. Usually 2+hours of hard work followed by the usual daily routine so that by the end of the day I am whipped.

@bruceha2000, yeah, Bud light is the beer of choice around here. I think it's funny. Back in the good old days before Covid 19 I would be standing in line at the grocery and there would be a man a head of me and one behind with a cart and all they would have in it would be a 24 can box of Bud light and a sack of deli food. My cart would have a month's worth of groceries in it. A talk with the manager one day confirmed my suspicions. He said if it wasn't for the beer and fried deli food sales, the place would close. Sad. We always support local businesses. Not many do these days but head to Kirksville or Macon or even Moberly for their shopping.

I thought that would change with the way things are with the virus. Don't know. Who can safely go to the store any longer?
I hope the side effects will not be terrible this time!

Hopefully the store is selling the beer and Deli meats via delivery!

micro, The stuff I get infused, is Prolia that is stronger, and called by another name, but it's the same stuff. I HATE it too. The bad effects last me about a week. Along with the things you experience, I also get horrible diarrhea. It makes for a very rough week.
Yeah, it's a load of fun, isn't it. It isn't everyday that you pay to have a 2400.00$ a dose drug pumped into you that is going to make you want to crawl under the bed for about a month and hide. I usually have a rough 2 months with it then it starts easing up on me. By 6 months it's out of my system. I was supposed to get the shot the beginning of this month but talked the doctor into giving me a month's reprieve. He did. I've felt great. Of course I still have the joint pain but Otherwise I'm going like from breakfast to sunset with more energy than I'm use to having.

I just had a thought about your Quacker Sparkles. Can you induce vomiting with a duck using peroxide like you can with dogs and cats?

Please don't beat yourself up. About 3 years ago, DH came into the house holding a Tom Cat mouse and rat bait station. I asked him why he had it and he told me that he had just taken it away from our dog. I had set it in the shop with a concrete block on top of it to prevent that from happening. She had somehow managed to knock the block off and had the holder out in the field trying her best to break into it, probably smelling mouse. I opened it and to my relief, the bait was still there. But there was a lot of residue from the bait that she could have ingested. I was on the phone to the manufacturer who gave me the number for the national poison hotline for pets. I called them and they asked me a lot of questions, finally telling me to induce vomiting in her using peroxide.

It was a real trick getting that stuff down her. I wasted so much that I felt like I used way more than I got down her but she erupted like Mount Saint Helens and spewed foamy peroxide all over the back yard. Thankfully, no residue from the bait holder. She had to go on vitamin K for 5 days after that but all was well. I still feel terrible to this day that I underestimated her ability to get something she really wanted when she set her mind to it.

I wondered if it could be used in this instance to get a duck to upchuck a foreign object?
