The Old Folks Home

The 'squab' is too little to even be a squab. There is a storm moving in and it's too danged hot to cover the coop 'squab's' mother and siblings are in so I drug them into the coop and stuffed them in my broody/nest box that I turned into a pen. In the dark.

Last time it rained, their pen flooded along with their nest box area.

Geeze, I think the name Squab will probably stick with this little devil.

Pretty hot here, still in mid 80's (at 12:36 am). I turn the a/c off at bedtime too expensive to keep it on all day. Instead I switch to the ceiling fan for some cooling off at night. We are supposed to have some vigorous storms coming this weekend but, you never know for sure till it happens.

The boss does not believe in remote work-- but I am IT so some things are time critical, especially if Zoom is not working for a meeting or class
so you are an emergency service! :gig It reminds me of a scene in Apollo 13 which sticks in my mind: after the explosion, Ed Harris has got the team together in a seminar room to assess the situation, and just as he's about to write on the OHP (who remembers them?) and the light bulb blows. He shoves the thing aside and moves to the black/white/green board (can't remember which colour it was) - something you can do IRL but not online!

We planted between 60 and 75 hybrid thornless triple crown blackberries. 5 years later, all gone to hard winter freezes and snow. They were supposed to be hardy to zone 5. We are 6b here so I don't know what happened to them. The best years harvest was over 50 pounds. We had two wineries wanting to buy from us....oh well.

Meanwhile....back in the timber....the wild blackberries and raspberries are going to have a bumper crop. IF I can beat the deer and raccoons to them!
I have thorn-less black berries and they do sell here. Of course we are zone 9 here

We use a whole house fan at night.
