Just got power restored, when I posted the previous post. Lightning hit a transformer, it traveled across the wire to the next transformer, and blew them both out. 4 houses are now back up, and running. I made Dh turn the generator on while the power was out. He balked, but turned it on. Now I know what I can expect from it in an actual emergency. We've never done an actual dry run, just using it as the only power source. No, it does not switch, and start/stop automatically. We had discussed getting it set up to auto switch, start/stop. It's expensive, and really not worth the money to convert it. It's right next to the house, and you just push a button to start it.

My folks had a whole house generator set on their place they are pretty great..
our pud is a local we almost never loose power .. it also supplies tacoma and other places

penny, they can catch it with the masks. Most of the masks now carry a warning that they do not protect against getting, or spreading Covid. The concern about masks, is the reduced air flow, and higher carbon dioxide levels, when using them. This can actually be dangerous for children, and people with respiratory issues. The masks that actually work best, are rarely the ones people are using. If you want the protection you are seeing in some of the illustrations, you need to get Medical Grade N95 masks that are properly sealed on the face. Even those don't offer 100% protection, but they do offer a much higher degree of protection. With the higher degree of protection, the length of time they should be worn, and the risks from reduced oxygen, and higher carbon dioxide levels, is higher too.

Florida is prone to hurricanes, tropical storms, and thundershowers. As if that's not enough, we get a LOT of lightening strikes. Before we moved in here, with the whole house generator, we always had one big enough to run a portable A/C, and the refrigerator. It's one thing if the power is off an hour, or two, and quite another if it's going to be off for 8+ hours.

The V in VPK stands for Voluntary, NOT Virtual. She is actually, physically going to the Pre Kindergarten. I was concerned they would make her wear a mask, but she's young enough she doesn't have to.

Huh...

But isn't all school voluntary?

Or... technically, truancy laws don't kick in until 1st grade, right???

Haven't ever really thought about it to be honest.

my day's almost over now penny, and it went well, thank you, except one of the eggs Eve was sitting on broke. Fortunately I saw her crossing the lawn with shell in beak, and was able to sort out the nest while she shared the remnants with the flock and then cleaned herself up. The other 3 eggs all had some contamination, which I wiped off best I could, and removed as much egg as possible from the nest before she came back. They're all home grown, so it's no great loss if this clutch fails.

When I log back in in the morning I hope to hear that your roofers are progressing well!

No but the Pantry is being built and the Kitchen cabinets have done their dry run. The popout for the refrigerator should be started as well. By making a box for it It can be made almost flush with the wall. And the location is at a perfect triangle for the work flow.

My back is another story. Seems that I may have Scoleosis. and Yes at age 65 its not unnusual. I go for ex rays this week. and will schedual an MRI when I go in.

I think all my lost fat was supporting it and now that that is going away my problem is showing its ugly head.

I discovered that I have a lumbar scoliosis when I was in my early 30s, Perchie. It's a pain in the....well back and somewhat lower. Lots of sciatica pain and narrowed inner-spaces cause the pressure on the nerves and resulting pain.

School is NOT voluntary. It's a Federal law, and there could be State, and County laws as well. VPK was voluntary, when it first started. While the website(s) say it still is, and technically it is, but you can expect a visit from Children's Services, if you do not enroll your child when they turn 4. Somehow, it's considered a form of not properly caring for your child, if you don't.

Finding N95 masks is the trick. I still have stacks of masks from the Great Methotrexate Experiment of 2018-19. They are only two ply and I think N95s are 3 ply so I wear two. Which means four layers so I'm technically safe. Plus I have one of those cloth, two layer masks so I can wear one of my surgical masks along with it and still have 4 layers.

But talk about hypoxia! The moment I cross our driveway gate, I am ripping those puppies off and tossing them. I'm mildly claustrophobic anyway so this isn't helping me one bit.

I'm amazed how somebody with compromised breathing deals with it. I couldn't.

Got a surprise today. DH has an appointment with his dermatologist this week. He called them today to see what precautions they were taking to insure patient safety. None. Not one thing. Staff is masked but it's 'optional' with patients. My doc is operating behind locked doors everyone wearing masks, only one patient in at a time and the clinic where I get my prolia shot is even stricter.

I'm amazed and frankly shocked. He rescheduled for next month but he's as much high risk as I am. We aren't sure what he's going to do.
