The Old Folks Home

Cap, what does that feel like precisely? I wake up in the morning feeling like my jaw on one side has 'sand' in it. Sore spots but no real pain. The flippin Prolia can cause jaw problems and I'd much rather have TMJ than a necrotic jaw.
Mine didn't/doesn't feel like that.

My right jaw joint is just always a bit sore. But opening and chewing is fine... at times with too much hard chewing I can feel it a bit more... but subtle.

But last fall when I got stressed it went from sore/I can ignore it to clamping down, lock jaw. I could barely slide a Ritz cracker into my mouth... blasted jaw was impressively painful to open wide enough for a spoon, and simply refused to open wider.

I tried a bunch of drugs... acupuncture, face massage... finally could get it just barely open wide enough for the tooth doc to make a mouth guard for me... took about a month... now back to just a touch sore.

That sounds very scary! Did the mouth guard solve the problem? Was the pain cause by teeth grinding in your sleep?

@CapricornFarm, more infected teeth? Didn't you just have one that was abscessed removed? And along with jaw pain? Maybe the infected teeth are affecting your jaw?

@Alaskan. all I can say is :th Gives one a whole new appreciation of soup doesn't it? Problem with my teeth is that they abscess without ever causing me any pain. The nerves just die and then the teeth fuse to my jaw. It's the after issues that are a pain in the mouth. Literally.

@lovesfarms, I did some hunting and found this. Seems as though it can cause behavior problems:

Just got back from getting tractor bucket $5 of sand and then picked over a gallon of green beans from my pole beans. I'm really impressed with the harvest from them.

I clench my jaw... then I got stressed, super clenched and the muscle locked up and could not release again.

I don't grind... so my teeth are not getting worn down, that is nice.

The mouth guard forces my lower jaw WAY further forward than usual, so when I clench at night I am stressing/working out a completely new jaw area... that helps the over used jaw spot to rest.

And... eventhough I have not worn down my teeth, there is some joint wear visible on x-rays.

Before I got stressed and super messed up the joint... i had zero discomfort, and no idea that I was messing anything up.

The mouth guard got me close to all fixed. I am now fully functional, and that is awesome.
