Here is East Texas it usually snows one or two days a winter- a few inches only. The entire city shuts down like we are hunkering for the apocalypse. If essential workers need to go to work- Nurses etc, they drive like crazy people, a lot end up on the side of the road sideways or in a ditch. The hospital I worked at sent security to pick people up and gave empty rooms to sleep in so the staff didn't have to drive in the "blizzard".

I have read that some of the problem with places that do not normally get snow is that there is no infrastructure for it-- gravel, snow plows and etc. That makes even a bit of snow dangerous.

We've been having less and less snow the past few winters - maybe global warming???
This time the weather guys are saying mid-week and beyond, lows of 20F or less , with wind chills of -35F- I've got enough frigid weather clothes to cover a few female folks, if they are small enough to wear them.

The HAM radio community is of the opinion that the mild weather/hot weather/dry weather is a result of the Solar Minimum that has been around. Solar Minimum means that the sun is putting out a greatly reduced number of sun Spots. We are slowly going into a Solar Maximum and recently received a notification that HAM operators may have to dust off their SkyWarn talents because they were speculating that the Solar Maximum will bring in a new round of severe weather as it intensifies.

Good morning all you old folk. 50 MPH wind gusts again today. Our poor antenna mast is just trying to hang on.

DH got through his whittling adventure yesterday. The MOHS was successful thank goodness and he is looking forward to getting his sutures out in a week.

Other than cutting up a turkey, making another batch of oatmeal raisin cookies and bread my day is pretty much open....gosh that does sound like a lot looking at it in print, LOL.

Preparing for a possible freeze. Got all of the frames up and tomorrow I'll cover everything before it rains in the afternoon. I would have had it all done 20 years ago. I'm certainly slowing down but get it done... Christmas and Saturday will be the coldest days. We have a farm swap twice a month at our local TSC. The next swap is Saturday. The temperature here probably will not get out of the 40's for the high and mid to upper 20's Saturday morning. It will be our coldest day so far this year. I'm still going. Nothing to sell but going as moral support. I'm ready... (I'm taking some Christmas candy for the kids)

The solar minimum and milder weather was debunked recently. There is not historical correlation with it.

It is climate change

But seriously, sometime look up the Maunder Minimum. Not everything is connected to the current climate change argument as this phenomena happened from 1645 to 1715. I don't think they knew about climate change back then. There was also volcanic activity back then along with a diminishing of sun light due to the lack of solar flare activity that caused a decided lowering of the overall temperature and a mini ice age.

This is what I found: The Maunder Minimum occurred with a much longer period of lower-than-average European temperatures which is likely to have been primarily caused by volcanic activity

Yes, plus people here do NOT know how to drive in snow and ice- you can not hit the brake like usual, you will end up in a ditch or sideways on the road. I know a lady that lived with her driveway on an incline- not a large one- and she called in to work because with the ice and snow, she was afraid she would slide off the driveway right across the road into the neighbors yard. LOL ice was not even sticking on the roads.
