The Old Folks Home

@microchip, the insurance guy offered to write off both of the vehicles. But we really don't want to go through looking for new ones. And don't feel like dishing out over $80,000 for two new vehicles from a dealer. A full sized bed pickup with 4x4 and decent mileage is super hard to find , especially at a reasonable price. I need to empty out the stuff from my truck. We just had a new CD player put in, a very nice one. Ugh.
Thursday we are supposed to have another nasty ice storm. Still no power here, though my friend up near Farmville VA finally got her power restored. She had expensive shipped eggs in the bator, so she wrapped up the eggs and strapped them to her body. Not a fun thing, but she was desperate.
It would be hard to lose two vehicles at one time!

Sounds terrible!!
It's not at lot of fun, let me tell you. I am definitely going to set up a water collection system on the goat house and the barn. It's so handy when the power is out. I have one on the original coop, and 2 on the house.

Sanding up above your head... well, that would give my upper arm flab a workout, huh?
You can use one of the swiveling head sanding pads on a pole. I think they are generally used for sanding drywall. Still not fun but at least you will still have an arm when you are done. If you lived close by you could borrow mine, I don't have any use for it at the moment anyway.

The bigger question is WHY are you getting mold on the ceiling? Must be pretty humid in the house??

Any home I've seen where the chimney isn't higher than the tallest roof the woodstove will not burn good.
The rule is the chimney must be AT LEAST 2' higher than anything within 5' of it.

not even attempting outside until temp goes up some more! 33 right now
:gig
Sorry but it is all relative. Yesterday I picked up the new 12V for DW's old car. After I moved snow for a couple hours, including replacing a shear pin (not fun!), I had lunch. Figured I'd put off the battery replacement until tomorrow when it is supposed to be sunny then I remembered she said it is supposed to be cold tomorrow. I checked; yep, high of 17°F which here likely means 12°F. I was happy to go out in the 33°F temp today and replace the battery.

My heated water bowl took a powder on me and quit in it's tracks. Discovered that happened on Friday when I plugged it in for the first time.
Well doesn't THAT timing just suck?!? I got mine at TSC. They don't seem to have great longevity as this is the second one I have purchased in 6(?) years. The heated bucket that came with the alpacas 4.5 years ago is still working fine (knock on wood).

Speaking of Carharts. I think I'm ready to check into those.
DO IT!!!! My inlaws bought me some insulated Carhartt coveralls quite a few years ago. They are great though I wish they had some knee wear patches, I'm going through them. I also have a Carhartt jacket that I wear until the temp gets down to maybe 10°F, very sturdy.

Are you getting new Vehicles then ? 80 thousand is great price
$80K seems like quite a bit of money to me. I'm sure the insurance company isn't going to give them much for the damaged vehicles.

It's the ceiling over the tub that has the worst mold, but most of the bathroom has it too. It's unfinished wood, no exhaust fan, so no wonder it's got mold/mildew.

The wall above the the shower is also wood, but has poly on it. Mildew wipes right off.

The interior of the the house is cedar, cherry, and pine. When we saw it for the first time, we knew in about 15 seconds that this was what we wanted.

Can you add a vent?

Our house has a vent fan in the downstairs bathroom-- no windows. The other two have windows but no exhaust fan.

Lots of models of Car hart's. Some have double knee and way thicker fabric.

We buy the sturdiest version, with double knees for kid 3.
