The Old Folks Home

That's sad, @CSolis.

Last year I got on Google Earth and looked up the house that I basically grew up in. My parents and I lived there for almost 20 years.

The 8 acres set next to a cemetery. When they sold it, the Catholic Church bought the property to add the acreage to their cemetery, then they sold the acre that the house set on.

I was stunned when I brought up the address and the house was gone. The garage was gone. All the fruit trees were gone. It was if none of it ever existed. My parents built on to the house. I had an art studio there. It's where I had my horses. All just wiped from the face of the earth. Only just memories and phots left. So I know how you feel. :hugs
It is shocking when that happens!

My Grandma on my Dad's side lived in a building what was built in the 1920s and was at one time a General store. About 10 years ago, it was torn down...after going through the Depression, WWII and so on. I would have thought it would have been declared an historical building given the age.

My parent's home was antebellum built. When they added on an upstairs they found wooden pegs instead of nails in the rafters.

I would have thought the same thing about their house but the only thing I can think of happening is that the Church bought the acre back and decided to merge it with the existing cemetery.

Probably the best thing to do to it, that house was haunted as all get out! Guess we should have warned the priests. :lau 👿

I am so jealous, Cap. Nothing is blooming here yet except my forsythia, pussy willow and spring beauty wild flowers.

It's almost 80 here today and the grass is growing like crazy though. Won't be long before that sound of the mating call of the Briggs and Stratton motors is heard around the neighborhood.

Yup, funny things happen. Dad who was born in '26 took a trip back in 2006 to scatter granddad and grandma's ashes on the old farm they had in Beaver Township in Pennsylvania. While there he took a side trip to Ridgeway and the building where he was born is still there. No longer being used as a barber shop and pool hall that my great grandfather ran. There were and still are living quarters above it where grandma stayed while granddad was off working somewhere. That's when dad popped out.
I was born in Canton, OH.. but when I was 9 we moved up to N Canton where I lived until going to Mex as an exchange student. They have upgraded the house by enclosing the screened-in breeze way, and poured a lot of concrete for some strange reason.. The little house on the left belonged to the Humberts and was rented out to Norma and Chester Henry P-flukeee (Pfluke). He drove a route delivering potato chips, and Norma a former card dealer in NV was a home body. I used to go over and play cards with her when I was growing up.

@CapricornFarm ! Long time no see, where have you been hiding? I'm busy incubating eggs, and was surprised you weren't in on the EHAL.. Gonna call the local radio station when my current batch that hatched is old enough and see if I can't get some kind of swap going on in Andalusia.
