I know! It was cold this morning in the living room. I shivered a bit. It was down to 52F this morning and that is too cold here in the summer!

Ah, but you can open the windows and let that cold air in so the house is cool even during the day when you hit 100° outside!.

But on a brighter note I just read a news story about California beaches being hit by tick with growing fear of Lyme Disease!

My GUESS is that if there are ticks on the beach they came from dogs and dog ticks don't carry Lyme. Could be wrong though.

The chicks are squared away, and not in the playpen, we'll see if the older hen can behave. My rooster has been great toward the chicks, better than the hens.
It is not cloudy, and that is a good thing, but it is only 41 out~~~~~~~~~~~

You guys will be running out and buying winter coats with those temps! Just kidding. But if you aren't used to cool temps it is a bit of an adjustment, just like getting used to hot temps here.

The Amish wear long sleeves all year long. The women black bonnets and black shawl like things in the summer no less. I asked them once how they stood it when the temp is 98° in the shade. Their reply? Oh, you get used to it.

But on a brighter note I just read a news story about California beaches being hit by tick with growing fear of Lyme Disease! I'm sure you guys could live without that. But earthquakes AND ticks?

Sounds odd, ticks at the beach, but I guess if inland water is in short supply the deer would and do go down to drink. The elk here and deer often go to the bay to drink, they get their salt I guess.

Chicks shipped yesterday, SUPPOSEDLY going to arrive by 6 PM tonight. If so they aren't going through our local post office. They would already be there and I would have already picked them up. That suggests they will be direct delivered. Of course today I have to take 2 cats to the vet. Will make sure DD2, who fortunately has Tue and Wed off, is paying attention. The last 2 times they dropped off chicks I wasn't home and they were left in front of the door. Fortunately, being retired, I was only out on a relatively short errand and came home to find them before they were there too long.

I remember reading some discussion about this on the Lymenet.org forum. People were wondering about the validity of the claim that dog ticks don't carry Lyme. They do carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever but I think somebody brought up the point that what if a dog tick bit a dog that was infected with Lyme...which isn't that unusual..and then bit a human?

It was a good point. I just consider all ticks to be evil disease carriers and proceed from there.

The most interesting thing I learned is that the first victim of ticks is the common field mouse. Another reason to get rid of mice as much as possible.

Morning everyone. It's a GORGEOUS morning here in Missouri. The rain we got yesterday perked everything up. I'm glad I got our garden weeded and hoed and some lawn mowing done. Off to the timber again today to harvest wood. Everyone have a great day!

Wow, what a day for you all,
now the hay is cut, I hope the dust / pollen settles and the air improves. Remind Pop that the kids are receiving joy in helping him, and greater joy at a job well done. We need the kids help at times, and it is a proud moment when they are right there to help when we do.

I baby sat new grandson. Grilled(or started to griil)cheeseburgers and franks until thunder chased me inside to finish.
only about 1/2 hay on farm has been cut/put away. And when it's all done, it's about time for the second cutting to start. Our kids have their own houses on the farm. The granddaughter is the 5th generation here--a full family operation
