The Old Folks Home

My most memorable vaccine was about 15 years ago when my 'new' doctor in western IL was going over my records and asked me about my small pox vaccine. He couldn't find any record of me getting it. I assured him I had gotten it. Three times to be precise the last time about 20 years earlier. They couldn't get it to take and the doctor told me at the time that I had natural immunity to small pox.

The doctor assured me that was impossible. Nobody was immune to small pox and to prove it he was going to vaccinate me again...for the 4th time. I just shrugged said sure, knock yourself out. He gave me the injection himself and put a circle around it with a magic marker. He wanted to see me a week later, try not to wash off the marker. Plus he noted in my chart the location of the vaccine. I went back. No reaction. Couldn't tell where I'd gotten the shot. Magic marker still there. No scab from the vaccine. He checked every inch of my upper arm, then the other arm in spite of his own notes and shook his head.

'You're immune to small pox!' he announced. 'Really? was my response. He was stunned and speculated that maybe I was exposed to it but never got it. Now we are talking about Small Pox here so not likely. I'm just immune.

Howdy old folk. Getting our daily monsoon here. Still I was able to get a trail cleared before it started raining.

@CapricornFarm. I flinch every time I think about how painful your ear must be. Take care. Feel better. :hugs
Thanks Becky, still taking my antibiotics. Hugs to you as well.

I had chicken pox as a young child, my younger brother got it too but, our older sister never did. My brother is diabetic & has cardiac issues, and he had shingles. I think that was the worst thing for him. But he "toughs" everything out.

We both have gotten the Shingrex (think I spelled that wrong)- oh well. Had to get two shots (over a period of time for that) My brother uses his Walmart pharmacy. The pharmacist well knows his health situation and put the second shot away for my brother knowing so many places ran out of them.

I think I have probably gotten every shot that was "out there." I've been trying to convince myself not to be afraid of getting them. So far it has worked out. Of course at our Target, they used to give $ 5. vouchers with most shots, for folks to spend in the store. I love shopping.
