The Old Folks Home

I really feel for ya @microchick . It's been a helpless feeling here with my girl, but she polished off her scrambled eggs, which means she found them. Both eyes are open now so she must have some sight..and she poooooooooooped! I've never been so happy to see chicken poop, which means 4 days literally on just electrolites didn't cause permanent damage there. And yes there has to be nerve damage. B vitamins are key for nerve health. I wish you luck with your boy.

Good Morning, OF
Thank you CSolis and the same to you with your girl.

It's tough finding them injured and not knowing how they got hurt or what is the right way to treat them.

I didn't know if Swan was going to survive the night when he was first injured. He couldn't even stand up and I was eyedroppering sugar water into him for shock with my husband's help. When he started acting a little more alert I treated his wound, slathered him up with antibiotic salve, dosed him with liquid antibiotic and put him in the brooder for the night.

I have food and water up on bricks so he doesn't have to move his head too far to eat but his posture is just so weird that I have to suspect nerve damage.

I'll get a picture of him later. Plus like you I'm facing the reality of what to do with him once he is healed. He's compromised to putting him back in with the bachelors isn't going to happen and I doubt if he will be able to hold his own in the main coop. My husband said that maybe he will become our house chicken and I don't see that happening either. Not much of a life in a cage all of the time.

They do make life challenging.

Morning all. Sitting here chugging down coffee and trying to convince myself time to rise and shine. This will be a busy week for me. I see the new Rheumatologist on Wednesday. Today I need to make a run to town for feed and RXs. And of course it is still raining here but at least we have cool temps for this time of the year.

Have a great morning everyone.

Got the chickens fed, the house tidied and swept and mopped, clothes in the dryer, egg shells crushed. All while being exhausted to start with. I hate the after effects of the stroke, some days I just don't have the energy to fart. Can I go back to bed now?
:hugs Hang in there. It takes time to recover and no, things won't be the same again but you can make what you can do better. The key is to ease back into things, rest frequently, stay active and do things that you are used to doing and that your therapist has given the okay for you to do.

It will take weeks and months but you will slowly start to feel stronger as your body recovers and your nervous system repairs itself.

You've just got to be patient with yourself but you can do it.

How is your injured little girl this morning?

90° weather and I've got a bird with diarrhea. She drank and drank all day. She didn't pass blood, just all water. She had no appetite until tonight she started scratching and pecking in the dirt. Bad timing with a hot week ahead of us.
When it is hot and they drink a lot of water, they have water poops LOL!

Give them electrolytes.

Birds do not pee so they eliminate water in the poo.

You should see what kind of poo splats we get here!

Their egg shells will get weak too.

You have my permission. :hugs
