The Old Folks Home

I think the only difference is you will be filing as a Single. The income stream probably doesn't change though I guess as a surviving spouse Social Security might be different?

Did he have a pension and if so what percentage will you receive? It could have been set up anywhere from 0% to 100% though at least where I worked if you chose anything less than 50% the beneficiary had to sign that they agreed. If there is a pension and it isn't 100% your income will decrease.

If there was a life insurance policy and you are the beneficiary, I don't think that is taxable.

This MIGHT be a case where a tax professional might be worth what they charge.
That man had so many different things going...Pensions, IRA, the life insurance went towards the funeral, 401, military.. He's still taking care of me. Thank you honey! 💞 Even through insurance. I have Tricare for life now.. military. With that and medicair, I'm paying nothing out of pocket for medical! Yeah..I am going to be fine the rest of my life. Saving some every month for the kids, in case I need to be out in a home, heaven forbid. I'll have enough to pay this first years tax dues. Pretty sure it will be big this year, then just for the incoming monthly beneficiary payments from then on. My son and a daughter helped me with allllll the paper work. We are having federal withheld on the payments.

Son and family are here. I am always disgusted how they never seem to teach their kids to speak properly. I can hardly understand what the 6 year old says. FINALLY they have plans to take him to a speech therapist!
It disgusts me because they keep thinking " God will fix it. " this is the 4th kid that has grown up talking gibberish. I really wanted to call CPS, but my hardworking son would be devastated.
Contact their school's speech specialist (by phone, no e-mail trail) and explain the situation, including your concern over your family's reactions if you were to report the issue to CPS. As educators, they can observe the kids in school and make recommendations to the teachers and parents without you as an intermediary. You needn't be officially involved at all.

Most of my yard is fenced in now(thinking of foxes since last winter according to foot prints they entered the yard via the car port/parking lot area). The car port is cement floor with a retaining block wall along the yard (steps going into the yard) and about 3 feet of brick patio by the steps. Connected to the carport is a 2 car parking lot on top of a 5' retaining wall. That area doesn't have a fence yet because you have to drill holes. I was thinking of partly filling 5 gallon buckets or reinforced cardboard boxes with cement. Then sinking posts in it and attaching the fence to that. After the cement is dry, if I have it in buckets, I could fill it up the rest of the way with soil to use as planters. That fence would be on top of the retaining wall at the parking lot. I already put grid wall up on the carport and am making a gate.
So why would I need a fence on top of a 5' retaining wall? The foxes I've seen during the day possibly had rabies so if he's not in his right mind, suppose he'd jump down, kill the chickens and even if he couldn't get back up-well--the killing would have been done by then. We also have the 2-legged kind around.
I jump off that wall too, when I'm too lazy to go down the steps, though I never jump back up again!
