The Old Folks Home

@CSolis, my pleasure on the name.

@bruceha2000 no no no you have it all wrong. The message on the cup means if you have 4 dozen chickens you ae 2 dozen past normal. That is if you consider a 24 chicken flock to be the 'normal' number of chickens for your given surroundings. Normal for one may be 8 birds. Normal for another may be 100 birds....plus two dozen more, LOL.

Got Amish sweet white bread dough rising and sugar cookie dough in the fridge chillin. Guess I'd better make lunch while I have the break in the baking action.

Welllll.....look but NO TOUCH!
Here's Bonnie, the kernels' mom. She's at the end of molt now.

What's confusing to me is the combs and wattles, but lack of the correct saddle and hackle feathers on some that have developed wattles already. I assume the one on the left is a cockerel, but am in doubt about the one on the right. There's one under the nesting box I'm sure is a pullet. On the others it's a toss up.

BTW, I got a decent shot of Greystoke out with his ladies. He's Turtle Dove's dad out of Muffins the EE. He's also Countess' dad.. She's the blue egger.

I have to admit, he's an awesome guy around his gals, and so polite to me. He takes food so gently from my hand.

Hope they all surprise you and lay eggs!

I love the chin and get feathers. I had trimmed the facial hair to help protect them from hawks. Now they grew back again and they are searching the sky's so often in watch of the hawks that I almost want to let them keep their good looks. I see hawks floating around about 75% of the time I go outside.

@CSolis they are beautiful birds. With my Buff O's I could tell the hens from the roosters by their legs before the saddle and hackle feathers came in. The roosters have thicker legs and toes then the pullets. Idunno. I don't see a lot of hackle or saddle feathers on either of those two sitting on the roost bar. Maybe both pullets?

As for Greystoke. He looks like a darker version of my Chip who is in the dog house right now. I put him in the bachelor pen to chill a bit since he was being mean to the Bantam Gang roosters. This morning I go in and hmmmm all the Bantam Boys are sitting up on the wide shelf. Thought they were just making sure that they didn't miss out on bread treat but nope. Looked outside and there was Chip back in with Trubel, helping him with the girls and no bantam roosters to be found.

So I spent 20 minutes chasing him around the run till he finally went in and then brought him in and trimmed a wing so hopefully he won't fly up and over into the main run again. I don't think he's too happy with me at the moment.

Did you grab it?
Oh heck yeah. They told me I didn't have to hold the 16 ounces of the prep back till morning. Just drink it all the day before. I thanked them. I would like to get a little sleep the night before. Also learned that the doctor hadn't seen the CT scan from my ER visit so I'm emailing it to her this afternoon.
