The Old Folks Home

Good morning, OF.

Sometimes I wish that I could remain unaware.
Ignorance really is bliss sometimes isn't it, Sour?

Yeah, I'm not really all that surprised. Seems like I've been sensing my body changing the last couple of years, especially my joints and back, and not for the better. I decided not to do an in ground garden next year, only planters and raised beds and only add one raised bed to the two that I have. I want to have fun and enjoy life doing things I want to do before I can't do them any more because I'm in a wheelchair.

Life is too short to work all the time.

Good morning folks! Another gorgeous late fall day here. Mild temps, sunshine. Trying to think of something to do outside because these days are getting to be as rare as hen's teeth!

@CSolis. Up at 4AM? *groan* I was just turning over in bed for the first time at that hour. Used to get up at 4 AM to go to work. Vowed when I quit that job that I wouldn't get up at that hour again unless it was a matter of life or death. My body just doesn't function at that hour and neither does my brain.:th

I do miss my little buddies!
You should have some of my corn kernels. They fight each other for attention. Never had a more friendly batch of chicks. Corn Puff is especially demanding, pecking at me for scratches, and if I sit on the lower roosting bar, there she is in my lap, then comes Corn Fritter competing for attention. They've taught Turtle Dove a thing or two and now she's pecking at me for attention too! It's contagious me thinks.

mine are like hey you gonna get up and feed us or what???

My 94 year old Mom quit eating and drinking. She suffers from dementia, it's a sad state of living
So sorry Cap. I know how hard that is to go through. My mother did the same thing. She never 'quit' eating but would eat a couple bites and say 'I'm done'. I talked to the doctor about it and he said not to push her to eat more. What little she was eating was going towards keeping her heart beating. She passed peacefully a month later.

One thing to remember is that she isn't suffering. She is living in her own little world. Dementia and Alzheimer's disease is harder on the families than it is on the victim. :hugs

Mine were like that till they discovered chicken heaven. (I'm getting more work done now because the chickens run away from me☹️)This is a picture of the bushes from the top of the yard, around the bushes to the bottom, and a picture inside chicken heaven! The bank protects them from wind, bushes protect them from hawks but lattice fence still allows the sun to shine in. It's also bug & worm heaven. Plus the soil isn't the best so there's lots of chickweed coming up in the grass around it with all this cool wet weather. With all that bonus, they will never sit in my lap again! Sigh!
Oh- that's the area the neighbor man tried to ban them from! So glad the boro voted 'chickens rights'!!!

Gots mine fed, and a bit mowed/bagged for those who don't get out to free range. A few other little projects knocked off to, so I'm set. 71 and sunny today. Might just take me phone out with me and play some tunes for the kids who are out running around. Which reminds me. When I went out to lock up last night Bandit and his gang of 4 were playing dumb. I don't wanna go in! I was looking for Morena, the darkest of the Calico Princess pullets but didn't see her. She has this thing about going over the fence to visit the other pullets. But I glanced around the big sweet gum tree, and lo an behold she was standing there with her feathers all floofed out like she had seen a ghost. Next thing I saw was, Plop! Big ole egg dropped from her fluffy buttski. Must have been a stretch for her since she's still a young pullet, and that egg was mighty big.
Today, Snowy (Snowflake's oldest daughter) decided she liked Bonnie's little house and went in and made herself comfy. She laid an egg, then gathered up Bonnie's first egg since molting in a pile and left the dog crate. Meanwhile KE the bantam is out wooing Snowball (Thanks @microchick for the name), and Snowball just isn't impressed at all. He keeps trying!
