The Old Folks Home

My husband nearly died from an aneurysm in his brain. In fact, he didn't go to the hospital because he thought it was just a bad migraine. He also suffers from sponge kidneys, which keep producing antler like stones. He is the toughest man i know. He used to go to work, even while peeing blood, from the damaging stones. He suffers migraines, though like myself, they have been less frequent as we age. He had emergency surgery on his spine one Saturday, because he was losing use of his arm. He had a titanium plate installed. He doesn't let it slow him down. Even with scoliosis, he fells trees and chops wood. We use wood almost exclusively to heat our home.
So he figures pain is just part of life. Carry on.
Yeah, I can relate to that. My husband is the same way only he will concede when he is sick and take it easy.

When he had one of his more radical skin cancer surgeries where they had to rebuild his nostril, friends invited us to there home the following Friday for dinner figuring that we were getting cabin sickness. DH still had a huge dressing on his face and was facing more surgery in the following weeks to reduce the pedicle graft they were doing. He looked pretty pathetic. Face swollen, black eye, crusted blood that we couldn't get scrubbed off.

He told our friends. I really need to get back to the office do you think I could start seeing a few patients on Monday?

His friend's wife just hugged him and said, oh, dear, no, you would just scare them to death.

Tough? Oh yeah, he's tough. Men just seem to handle things differently then women do. The worse it is the better they handle it. Minor things not so well.

I've spent most of my adolescent and adult life fighting first one health crisis after another. Hasn't stopped me from being a competitive cyclist, dirt bike rider, horse back rider to name a few of my hobbies down through the years. Not feeling well is just normal for me. When I feel good, I just go at things harder.

I figure I'll rest when I'm dead which hopefully will be a lot of years ahead. Until then I'm not going to let life pass me by.\

Be stubborn, Cap. Tell your body what it can go do to itself and let your spirit take control.

Apparently my brain doesn't make some of the chemicals i need.
When I was in my early 20s, I had a bad bout of depression after my mom died. My therapist had me do some test that checked for brain chemistry issues. She got the results and told me. "Five is normal. Yours is 11." For the first time, I thought, "Maybe this isn't all my fault."

I have been on an anti-depressant for most of the years since. It made a WORLD of difference.

Nobody tells a diabetic to "Get over it, you don't need insulin." Why can't people realize this is very much the same thing?

Meds have made such a huge difference for me. It took a while to find the right ones, I’ve been on so many different ones the past 6 months, but the new one has really helped a lot. Still not 100% perfect but definitely way better.

Public transportation is incredibly limited up here.
It is pretty much non existent in Vermont other than around Burlington. But we still want to make sure the cars will stop when necessary and won't kill their occupants with exhaust.

There are some requirements I find bizarre. For example if the vehicle has fog lights they have to work even though there is no requirement for any vehicle to have fog lights. So if you have an electrical issue of some sort it won't pass inspection. What to do, probably expensive to fix it, you just take out the housing before taking it in for inspection. Voila, it passes inspection.

Not according to the Texas lady at the Lyndon Baines Johnson ranch. :idunno
Well since the bakery IS in Texas I guess we can go with the Texas pronunciation of pecan. :D

How to pronounce that word is a regional thing.

"Peecan" is full NE yankee.

Texas is a big state, so there is a bit of variation, but always some form of "puh cawn" or "puh cahn"

New Orleans draws it out a bit more.

I live in NE yankee territory but I came from So. Cal so I don't pronounce it like any of y'all (which is not an actual word in So Cal ;) )
