REALLY, REALLY nice !
You hear about those fires at least once a year! I wonder if they thought the chickens were cold???I seen on the news tonight that a family living a couple of small towns east of me, lost their home to fire on Tuesday this week. The fire started in the chicken coop from a heat lamp. The fire then crossed the yard to the house and burned it down. I've always shied away from heat lamps. Just not worth the risk.
It’s funny you mentioned a bum Denon. We just dumped our old one! DH tried to troubleshoot and find a way to repair it but finally dumped it. It was from around 1990 though so….Originally, I had a Sony receiver. When lightning hit the ground outside, it ran to one of the electrical circuits, and blew out most of the electronic devices on that line. I wanted to get another one, but there were supply chain shortages, and NOBODY had them, so I got a Denon instead.
Last Wed. the 4/8K port blew out, on the Denon receiver. It's 14 months old. Remember, I had bought one brand new, and had to take it back the very next day for the exact same reason. They exchanged it for another new one, which is the one I have now. I contacted Denon. Yes, it's under warranty, and they cover all the repair costs. It should be. A 1700 dollar receiver should not fail that fast, BUT it seems to be a common problem with both Denon and Marantz. Of course, they only put ONE, 4/8K port on them. I'm not sure about shipping. It was mentioned when I was talking to Denon. They way I understand it, is when I send it to their repair station, WITH the receipt, and they confirm everything, then the warranty station sets it up for the reimbursement of the shipping costs. OR I pay for shipping it to them, but the shipping to return it is covered by them.
In the meantime, Dh mentioned that while it's flying around on vacation, we will still need one, until it gets back home. I went online, and to my surprise, there was quite a selection of Sony receivers. I had wanted to get a Sony receiver at the time, BUT there were supply chain sortages on a lot of tech, so NOBODY had them available. I found the exact one I wanted, and was shocked at the price. Originally it was around 899 dollars, BUT that series is being phased out, since it is not wi-fi capable. It does bluetooth, but not wi-fi. The price was $449.00. I was thrilled. I told him, when we get the Denon fixed, I'm going to sell it. We can at least recoup the $449.00.
Dh was not thrilled. "It doesn't do wi-fi, so how will you get content". The same way I do now. "No, the Denon gets wi-fi." The only thing I use the wi-fi for on the Denon, is to update the firmware, and even without wi-fi on the Sony, I can download the file, and install it. The tv does wi-fi, and both the tv, and the receiver have eARC, meaning I can get the content on the tv if need be, and the tv will feed it to the reciver, so we can hear it over the sound system. I don't need wi-fi on the reciever at all, and it will not affect anything. "So you're telling me that this $449.00 receiver is just as good as the $1,700.00 one?" No, I'm saying it's better. "????????" The Sony has three 4K ports, not just one. Say what you will, I've NEVER been able to get the sound quality out of the Denon, that I can get out of the Sony. "That's crazy". Maybe, but it's true.
I got it, hooked it up, did some preliminary settings, (No, it's not even fine tuned yet), and put on a 4K movie. The whole family, who had been watching me, and waiting for me to get everything set up, sat down to watch the movie. The first comments were, "Wow, that sounds sooooo much better than the other one."
This morning, when he took the kids to school, he asked them if the new receiver actually sounded better, or were they just saying that in front of me, so as not to upset me. Yes, this one really sounds so much better. He then asked my daughter the same thing. Yes, it sounds much better. Poor guy, he actually had to agree.
If any of you are wanting a great receiver for a great price, this is the one to get, and the time to get it. Yes, they have a few higher end receivers with the wi-fi, that cost more, but according to user reviews, this model is still better on all the things that count to get great sound.

I make cages for the heat lamps. Much safer.I seen on the news tonight that a family living a couple of small towns east of me, lost their home to fire on Tuesday this week.
