My big birds have 1/4 of acre to forage in.
They will not walk in snow.
Even had Barney try it 3 days ago stepped out right back in.
Snow is lava just ask him.

We make paths they'll follow but a couple don't get it and just forge straight ahead and get stuck. Silkies are smart said no one ever. That's why I didn't let them out today as we couldn't keep the paths clear and one or two no doubt would wander off somewhere and get stuck again. Plus, it's just too darned nasty out there today.

I used to have a few that wouldn't care if they were on the snow, then the rest wouldn't go near it. I had to toss down old hay for them to walk on. It all worked out as it gave them something to scratch around in come Spring.

It's dark out, and right at 76 degrees. It was colder this afternoon than it is now. After so many days of colder temps, it seems almost hot out.

Got the new cockerel settled. Took him less than 5 minutes to get out of his "cell." He's used to roosting in rafters, so the roost was odd to him. He kept looking at the ceiling.

We got one of the heaviest downpours this afternoon that I'm seen in a long time. I'm glad that is was not in snow form.
