The Old Folks Home

Oh, and I was thinking.... talking of cost... to hire out the desserts... I don't want too much work for us.
If there is a Costco close by, you can get decorated cupcakes from them and have someone make a small fancy cake for the pictures.

Nooooooo :lau I don't even have a Walmart.

Closest Costco is in Anchorage... many hours away.

This is why I am paying a local person to bake all of the excellent goodies as well as make a fancy wedding cake.

Not to worry, this is a Alaskan wedding, so the clothes will be stain-free, hole free, and maybe ironed... as in I am thinking of buying new button down church shirts for all the boys (actually, I was thinking to buy those no-iron ones).

We are used to wearing second hand, and garage sale clothes. Holes, stains, and FREE.
That's MY kind of wedding attire! :thumbsup

I told @Alaskan you have recipes for cookies and such gluten free.
Well, I only have the one chocolate cake recipe that I've actually made a few times. (But it's really, really good!)

GF baking is... hit or miss for me. The flour ain't cheap, so I figure I have to eat it whether it turns out well or not. If I'm going to make it for other people, I tend to make either that chocolate cake, or make something that's GF anyway. Or something where the flour doesn't really matter.

I've found a lot of recipes online, but haven't made more than one or two. I'm limiting the sweets I make because hubby doesn't eat much of them, and I really don't need them. So I haven't made much in the way of desserts.

Except that one chocolate cake. Did I mention that it's really good? :)

I early on (back in the days before gluten-free was so popular, so gluten-free items were usually horrid), learned a bunch of recipes that never wanted flour anyway.

So, rice pudding, chocolate soufflé, flourless chocolate cake, creme brulee, and lots of pies and such just made in a ramkin without any crust.

I'm thankful no one in my family has any condition to limit the foods put on our tables. I know of one family that has assigned caregivers to watch after a teenage daughter when they can't be right with her. She is highly allergic to peanuts. One sniff and it can be fatal for her. I don't know how I'd survive without a jar of peanut butter on the counter. It was a staple in our school system growing up and was served either in a celery stick or just a plain peanut butter log. I think it must have been government surplus like the cheese sticks were.

I wish I had bought more poblano peppers but they only had them in single pots at an outrageous price. If I can find seed this week I'll start some for the fall. So far my peppers and eggplants are the best I've ever had. I did kill three horn worms to day. How they got so large without showing damage to the tomato plants I don't know. I'll look them over again tomorrow. Need to get a black light to use on them at night as that is when they come out and show themselves the best. I need to put them in a can and let the chickens have the extra protein.
