The Old Folks Home

It's only 86° now and sunny. Not many hours of 90+ left now for the year. Our highs should me mid 80's by Oct. Elec bill will drop like a lead ball too soon.
We have an electric house so the Gas bill stays the same. Electric is down in the fall and spring but goes up in the winter. It is still less than heating with gas though.

Hey there, fellow Old Folks -- it's been ages but I'm back. Our peaceful retired world got topsy-turvied when our elder daughter's marriage broke up in early 2024 and she left so-very-urban Burbank with her 2 little kids and moved in with us, waaay up here behind the Redwood Curtain to our rural hideaway north of Eureka, CA. After that I had ZERO time to indulge on BYC (or much else), and wow have I missed it, and all of you! The grandkids are in early kindergarten and preschool now so I'm getting a bit of my time back. [Also had to recover from waves of illnesses our darling little disease vectors brought home from playgroups, etc. Avoided COVID till they arrived, then the whole household got it 3 times in less than a year!]

Never imagined at 71 I'd be changing diapers in the middle of the night, on call pretty much 24/7 to help with the littles while our own daughter goes back to school so she can support them soon as possible. (Not much call for professional costumers up here.😟)

Hoping to be active again here again now; all 8 of my first flock of chooks are doing fine, some just starting their second molt. Many thanks to all of the great information and sharing of experiences here!!! (P.S., the kiddos and their little pals LOVE the chickens.)
