The Old Folks Home

I just bought the closest thing to a flamethrower I'm ever going to get. One of those Benz-O-Matic welding job things.

I bought it under the ruse that I was going to use it to torch the hair off the roosters after I pluck them, which is true, but I can also see myself going up against Shelob and having better odds.

LOL You are soooo bad!!! Let me know how it works. Dressed a turkey the other day and it looked like a . . . . a hairy leg in need of a shave. ( No offense to those that tossed the razor long ago.)

Yeah I used to think if you cooked them the hair would just come off, but that's not true at all.

The neat thing though is all the turkens I've butchered have never had much hair. Some are hairless. Makes me want to keep a turken roo.

How is your homemade plucker working? Still like it? I have the parts just haven't built it yet. I've been hand plucking.I'm thinking the drill plucker will be faster at least, but not any better than hand plucking. Sure hate the hairy skin--yuuuuuck.

Definitely getting chilly here too. DH came home on Saturday from Yuma in shorts and a t-shirt. Went from around 100 degree weather to 55 degree weather. He insists that walking around in shorts feels great. We had a light frost yesterday morning. Good luck with that idea DH.

Still waiting to hear about the job in VA. I am not expecting to hear anything this week. Maybe next week but I am not holding my breath. Hate waiting. Patience is NOT my strong point.

One of the neighbor kids came over yesterday to see if we wanted their rooster. The dad is willing to butcher it but the little girl wants him to live. Usually I would probably have taken him and let him enjoy life for a while longer but I just got rid of 6 last weekend. DH explained that we are trying to get rid of our roos too. Kinda feel sorry for the little girl but it is what it is. I am holding off on rehoming any others for now but I don't need to add another cockerel to the mix. Even if we don't move, I am glad they are gone. It is so much quieter and calmer out there.

Adding a new roo doesn't sound like fun...I have one pegged for dismantle right now...add about sixteen more that I can't choose ..and really aren't a problem yet...toss another roo into that mix and I'll have plenty more feathers for my collection.

I much prefer jeans and a sweater weather, that oppressive heat I just can't take anymore....I mean, you can only take so many clothes off, but you can layer up as much as you want. Got me the artic boots this year, good for -120° , I think that'll work for me. Insulated coveralls and the down coat, and one of those mad bomber hats....hahaha. I think I can fall asleep in a snowdrift and be ok.

Alright send the link for the arctic boots. I need a pair. Last year I re-purposed my snowboots for coop boots. I didn't buy another pair. I was really lucky that we really just didn't get any snow last year. I can wear the gross boots around the yard when I shovel and snowblow, but obviously can't wear them to work.

My favorite pair of shoes is some LLBean comfort mocs but they have a fuzzy insulated inside. I wear them when the temp is below 75, which is most of the time up here. BF wears shorts until about 35 degrees. He's insane. We're quite a pair.

The only time I feel strangely dressed for the weather is one of those oddly sunny February days when it gets above freezing. It's been -20 for months, then all of a sudden it's about 30 degrees. Now THAT is t-shirt weather.
