The Old Folks Home

Besides, I prefer my "children" to be locked up at night and in a place where I can't hear their screams from the sanctity of my bedroom.

Wisher, did you get anything interesting in the mail recently?

I did! I have been working weekends and have not had a chance to make biscuits to go with them, therefore have not tasted either, yet. I have threatened all the boys (even DH) if they even think about breaking the vac on those jars. They are sitting on my kitchen counter, tempting me everyday. Curse this busy life that keeps me from such delicious pleasures.

I was going to wait until I had tried them to say "Thanks!" I really can't wait to spread some on a hot, homemade cathead biscuit.

Well, I hate to say it but the past few days' posts have confirmed that we are all in the right thread!

My goodness what a day. I thought they were going to have to initiate the stroke protocol on me about 10 times today.

How's everyone else doing?

Anyone know how I can pick up a (goat) boyfriend for my nubian? I'm not really sure if there's a "goats seeking goats" section of the classifieds.

This is the time of year to grab a buck , either a young one born this year, or a retiring boy. Most folks will be breeding for spring chickens . . . oops, kids.

Oh I don't want to actually *own* a buck.

You know me, I'm a divorced commitment-phobe. BF only lives here because he snuck his cat and things in while I wasn't paying close attention and then moved his mom into his house so now he has no where to go (at least he's behaving). And I only have goats because someone gave them to me. I will have truly lost my sanity if I get a buck.

Quote: You'll need to do a little hunting around. Post on CL what you are looking for. Try the Maine goat assn or just try a google search for goats in Maine and see what shows up. Are you sure you want to breed? That means little kids. ANd milk and milking if you want the milk for yourself. Most of us buy a ram or buck. If you buy a boy from this year you can use him for 4-6 weeks and then put him in the freezer.

I never thought about eating the buck. Hm... we really don't have the facilities to house a buck, though.

I'm not sure I want goat babies, but we'll need to do something in November or December if we decide to. The guy I got them from says I'll have to bottle feed every 6 hours, which is impossible because I work, but I can leave the baby with the mom, although risk CAE transmission, and then not have to milk or bottle feed that often.

I don't know what I want to do. I do know, that if she gets pregnant that I will be no where near her during birth. I will have to find her a midwife. I don't do birth.

SCG it sounds like you really don't want to have a kid (all puns intended

) I would weigh all the pros and cons before trying to look up "rent a stud" in your area. It sounds like a lot of work for someone who has a crazy schedule. I am not saying you shouldn't do it, just figure out if you really want to do it.

I know. I'm thinking what's the addition of one more thing to the insanity?

And then I remembered Mahonri's hatches are starting up soon... so it's like 1 more goat and 20 more chickens.

Oh and I got a buck rag today. It scared the crap out of both Augustina and Amos (the wether). That buck had some bad juju.
