The Old Folks Home

I feel almost guilty. We bought 30$ worth of hay yesterday (well, BF did... I was still quarantined until 8 PM) - bales for $2.50 each. The last batch of 30$ lasted us 3 months, although I'm sure the goats will be eating more now that it's getting colder and there's nothing on the trees for them to eat. Still, not a bad deal. Cheaper than the chickens!

I'm off to work today, finally.

SCG glad to hear that you are feeling better. Hopefully it is all over.

Yeah, supply and demand on the hay will definitely drive up the prices. It was a fairly dry summer here so I am sure that the hay will be outrageous in the winter. I am hoping to have them out of here before I run out. I have quite a bit right now and would have stocked up more if I wasn't expecting to move.

I haven't heard too much change in price on hay...checking the papers you'll be happier with the prices I do think, in VA and WV. One of the things I hated about FL...over 8 dollars for a crappy looking bale of hay, maybe forty pounds...the grass is inedible too.

Just catching up here. Power outage DiDi? Yes, we them also, and some are for long periods of time. Not so great when you are in the hatching mode. Sorry this job is taking them so long to decide. I keep coming on to see if you got it~! Soon, soon, you will come on here and say..it's official! I have the job! Crossing fingers. :)

Yesterday was actually a good day, and a day of mixed emotions. Sent our son to the MTC. Will be going on his mission to Georgia..I think I told you. Today was actually harder than yesterday. Finally feeling that empty nest syndrome at my age. Different around here for sure.

SCG, those pumpkins are adorable! I used to carve them, not any more. I cheat. I have real ones sitting on my porch steps, but have a plastic one that plugs in with the face.

Did I say that I hatched my Cinnamon Sussex? I got 5. And, I'm pretty sure I have three, after the guy from California called me...the one I bought the eggs from. I had a question about telling them apart when I let him know how many hatched..then I get this surprise of a phone call! It was nice of him to call..first one ever to do so. I got two Light Sussex, and the three Cinnamon. They are very pretty. This guy is very proud of his breeding. Wish I could keep roosters! :(

A bit of snow here, and I know that DiDi just loves that! You probably got more than we did..but, we are supposed to warm up a bit again. :) A bit.

Thanks for the pic Cynthia. So are they a color mutation off of the coronation/light? Are they big like the coros? Really pretty!

Kan, I am not sure about the genetics! I will post the auction I got them from..he posted a lot of info on them.

SCG, I have had the speckled sussex. And, yes! They have personality! My girl was quite the talker. I will post a picture of her in the nest box laying for the very first time. She's molting now..really hard. My friend has her..is trying to keep a warm place for the poor thing.
Here is she is.

Penny is very sweet, and she also sneaks into the house. Will be interesting to see how
she looks after the moult. These speckled sussex can change a lot in looks after a moult.

Here is the link to the auction of the cinnamon sussex. I noticed he had more just recently
for sale. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...rtile-chicken-hatching-eggs-shipping-is-extra
