The Olive-Egger thread!

X 2.

It will be pretty great to see "true" color breeding in OE's like Wheaten and Blue Wheatens from Marans crossed to Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas...that's one of my ambitions. I have a bunch of BCM x Lav Am eggs in the bator...hoping to get more Lav OE babies out of it. The pullet I have is tiny. I've been wondering what Golden Cuckoo Marans x Buff Ameraucana would look like. It would fun to get the golden color and the barring.

I still haven't seen a Penedesenca egg. I think they are sorely neglected in the OE department. Anyone have pictures? I have Welsummers and have another project I'm working on with them.

Sorely neglected are Araucanas

Wynette's Olive Eggers have Penedesenca in them and there are about three other users here who I've seen use Penedesenca in their OE's. (not counting people who use Wynette's stock)

Terrible picture, but I have a Penedesenca OE from Heidi's stock. Her eggs can be very splotchy as opposed to speckled. She laid very well for the first year, but has really slowed down since.

Hi! I would like to obtain ( or hatch) some birds that lay olive eggs. Right now, I have a New hampshire rooster that is mating with my EE's that lay greenish blue eggs.
Can anyone give me an educated guess on what color eggs their offspring would lay if I hatched them out? My new hampshire hens ( sisters to the roo) lay medium brown eggs.

Also, I have some cuckoo marans hens who are laying chocolate brown eggs. If I mated them with my EE rooster, is there a chance their offspring would lay olive eggs?
I appreciate any replies,,,,It's been quite awhile since my biology /genetic classes back in school!

The New Hampshire rooster over the EE hens could produce some olive eggs, depending on how dark the eggs from the EE's are.
You have a better chance with the marans hens with the EE rooster to get you the best olive eggs.

Good point.

Thanks, Draye!
Are you saying there is a better chance for olive eggs if the EE eggs are dark blue or green, ratherr than a more pastel color? ( when mated with the New Hampshire rooster?)
