The Olive-Egger thread!

Ok i am ordering 25 five chicks that come the 21 of feb i am geting some ee's golden laced wyadatts , butercups, , and soeckled sussex reeding this thred made me get more ee's then any thing else. but anyway i want to know if any one has breed a buttercup roo and a ee hen and if you liked what you got out of it and what color ee hen you used plz this thred has me cereus

Most olive eggers hatching eggs I see are colored eggs (so drk rooster over ee hen), has anyone done the reverse (ee roster over drk hen) and will you also get drk green eggs that way? I have a few beautiful BCM's in the brooder but I have no idea of sex and I am already planning my egg colors.

Well, he sure does look like a Splash Ameraucana to me! He's a very nice roo, too. If you crossed him with Black Copper Marans you should have gotten 100% blue offspring.

Are you sure your chicks aren't a very, very dark blue?

Let's see some more pictures!

Okay, finally got some photos uploaded to share...After photographing, they do appear to possibly be a very dark blue.

I'm pretty sure this one is a roo:

Although this one is now the smallest of the dark ones, I think it's a roo. The feathering looks the most like a roo, and my 11yo swears it was the one crowing months ago...but we haven't heard it since:

This one is the darkest all over (top & under sides), but lacks the gold in the hackles. Can't decide--roo? hen? What do you all think?:

Sorry this photo is much smaller, but this one is obviously blue. I'd be totally surprised if this isn't a hen--no roo saddle feathers, no gold in the hackles:

I'm not very good at deciding hens or roos, so please feel free to weigh in on your thoughts here! These were all hatched Aug 10, so they're 6mos old tomorrow. Haven't gotten a crow or egg out of any of them, but the first one does have more prominent spur buds than the others.

I did the Ameraucana roo over the Marans hen (offspring pics in previous post), but I haven't gotten any eggs, yet.

At 6mos old tomorrow, I'm on pins & needles waiting for an egg!

You definitely have 2 roos and 2 hens. But they are very beautiful! I can't wait to see when the boys are fully feathered out with the sickles. They will be stunning!

Ohhh please post or message me!!! I am very curious. Don't you HATE the waiting game!

Livin-green - that third one in your pics sure looks like a pullet to me, but dang...look how thick those legs are!

makes me think that one may be a late-blooming cockerel, but of course I could be wrong. VERY pretty birds!

An Ameraucana roo over a Marans hen, assuming the hen is from a very dark egg laying line, will give you some gorgeous olive green eggies! Likely a medium olive, and I bet the color depth will be just gorgeous! THey may even have that nice Marans sheen over them!

On the splash Ameraucana roo - yes, that's a splash, and you are right - if it was born yellow, it's a telltale sign. If it was a blue, it would be born light, almost silvery-looking blue.
